The neighborhood
Haarlem genießt eine perfekte Lage, nur 20 Minuten von Amsterdam entfernt und mit dem Strand als Hinterhof. Es ist nicht verwunderlich, dass die kleine Schwester von Amsterdam sowohl bei Einheimischen als auch bei Besuchern beliebt ist. Von Haarlem aus können Sie den fabelhaften Nationalpark Zuid-Kennemerland, herrliche Landgüter, das Meer und das Erholungsgebiet Spaarnwoude entdecken. Nicht zu vergessen der farbenfrohe Bollenstreek (Zwiebelregion) und die Keukenhof-Gärten gleich um die Ecke.
Getting around
Die Anreise nach und um Haarlem mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln ist recht bequem. Der Flughafen Schiphol ist mit dem Zug gut angebunden und Sie brauchen etwa 30 Minuten. Die Hauptstadt Amsterdam und der Strand von Zandvoort sind beide nur 15 Minuten entfernt. Straßenbahn- und Bushaltestellen sind nur einen kurzen Fußweg entfernt. Wir stellen Ihnen eine praktische Website zur Verfügung, um Ihre Route zu planen.
Mit dem Auto ist der Flughafen ca. 20 Minuten und Amsterdam 20 bis 30 Minuten entfernt, abhängig von Ihrem genauen Ziel.
Parken ist im Parkhaus De Appelaar in der Damstraat 12 möglich für 26 euro pro tag.

Yes, the rental unit has steep steps, but that added to the charm and experience. My son had a rough time on the airplane, and messages about possibly checking in early were responded to quickly which was much appreciated.
We were all sad to say goodbye to Haarlem and to the cozy apartment. We stayed for four nights and none of us were ready to leave!

This place can really use some maintenance. The bathroom surfaces were not very clean when we arrived. The kettle was full of limescale and was just gross to use. The shower head gave a minimal jet. The hairdryer was broken at the cable's end, which can cause electrical hazards. The laundry machine was mouldy. The oven was there but was just with all knobs deliberately removed so that you cannot use it (the stovetop was functional, though). There is some kitchenware but no knives you can really cut ingredients with for some proper cooking. We were four people staying for four nights and were just provided 2 rolls of toilet paper, 1 laundry pod, 1 dish washer tablet, and some 30 mL of detergent for the dishes. As guests, apart from some cleaning before you could use the place more comfortably, you still need to discard the household rubbish in the end. The accommodation has its potential but to too many aspects it feels as if it were run by some cheapskates. Would recommend looking somewhere else if you want to stay at a place that welcomes you and gives you a cosy feeling of home.
Just the cherry on top of the cake: We were woken up by some banging noises right outside the windows and the roof at 8:30 am. It later turned out that there was maintenance work going on and workers were walking across the windows to dismantle scaffolds. For a while we thought someone was breaking in. The whole thing lasted for about an hour in the morning. A simple notice beforehand would have saved some shock and frustration for our holiday. As the aftermath, the agent was quick to respond via messages.

It wasn't very well equipped, mismatched dishes, almost all plates were chipped, no sharp knives at all, not enough of some things for 4 people, basic essentials for self-catering were missing. The apartment is also extremely hot and stuffy, specially the top bedroom. Some windows don't open. There were two fans, but they barely made a difference. Aircon really is needed for summer.

Please be sure to consider the stairway, it is about 2.5 flights and is very steep with the individual steps being quite shallow. Before you discount this caution please know that my family stayed in two other apartments in Holland and they too were surprised by these stairs. We loved Haarlem and its a great place overall; we would consider returning, but if you have checked baggage you should consider hiring a Sherpa.

So with this review, I want to share the good, and bad of our stay.
GOOD :
- Location!
- Comfortable Beds
- View from living room
- Internet Access
- Laundry *Washer only, and requires hang dry of your clothes. Thankful there are hangers in each closet
- Large dining table
I made communication with the VRBO host about an issue with the oven, and made note of several other bits of info and changes that would benefit future guest. So that brings me to the next section...
BAD :
- prepare yourself for the staircase! The first run of stairs going up is steep, and includes 2 additional spiral portions before making it to the main door. BEWARE THE LOW BEAM. I was focused on getting the kids up the stairs while dragging suitcases and doing my best not to fall, I completely overlooked the "Low Beam" on the second spiral portion of the stairs. Almost knocked myself unconscious on the first ascent!
- In the photos we were excited to find a place with a full kitchen and an oven! Sadly, the oven was not functional for out stay. After reviewing photos from the VRBO listing, it appears 2 of the buttons were missing. Upon our first attempt using after arrival, there were 4 buttons missing.
- Communication. We hadnt received communication from VRBO with key access or other useful information until after arriving at the door and making a request on the VRBO site. Standing outside with the family and suitcases wasnt expected.

Leider ging der Kühlschrank nach 1 Tag kaputt. Haben dafür einen kleine Nachlass erhalten, was ich als tolle Geste empfand.

After that, we noticed that one of the beds did not have the sheets changed before our stay (we found human scabs on them). When we reached out to support, we asked that they confirm an appointment time to come solve this. Instead, someone showed up without warning, and really scared us. After that, we noticed the other bed also had dirty bedsheets and pillow cases, and the towels we were given were stained. There was also hair in the shower wall, and soap on the stand. This place is being mismanaged, which is a shame, since it's in a great location.

Stayed here for 8 days while in the Netherlands, traveling to many other towns. Bus stop is just minutes from the front door, easy access to the rest of the country.

It's an old house and therefore quirky. That is fine. It is not fine that the TV does not work, the kitchen is poorly equipped, pans are falling apart, instructions for the oven are missing. I really expect more for this price.

A dirty and completely worn apartment, stained bed linen, hair sticking to the kitchen and bathroom door, dirty and broken window frames, stained carpet and seating, holes in the dirty walls, fridge makeshift repaired with duct tape,
door handles falling off in the bathroom and loose hardware in the toilet, broken blinds on the windows, wobbly bedside lamps and loose screwed spotlights.
Dirty and thickly dust-covered wooden beams. The third room is cluttered with furniture and not usable.
The email correspondence about the deficiencies suggests that the management seems to know nothing about the current condition of the apartment.
So if you want to get really angry and feel ripped off for your money during your vacation, this is the place for you.

Die Wohnung wirkte unsauber und etwas heruntergekommen. Der Wasserhahn in Küche war total lose. Das Kühlfach im Kühlschrank ließ sich nicht schließen, große Flecken auf dem Teppich, eine Bildhalterung herausgerissen.
Das Parken im nahegelegenen Parkhaus ist sehr teuer.

The internal stairs up to the property are very steep so would not be accessible to all.
The apartment would have benefited from some additional mugs, a toaster/or grill and a working dishwasher. Whenever we tried to use the dishwasher, the electricity cut out. Aside from these issues, the place would have been a really great place to stay.

The bedrooms are not facing the street, and are therefore very quiet.

L'appartement est très spacieux et confortable. Il faut savoir qu'il y a en effet des escaliers très raides pour accéder à l'appartement.
Les équipements comme le frigidaire sont fonctionnels mais pourraient être changés. Il faut également savoir que la cuisine est très chichement fournie.

Schönes Dach-Schlafzimmer. Im grossen und Ganzen eine Gute Wohnung in der man gut Zeit verbringen kann.
Kontakt zum Mieter / Personal: Leider komplett unpersönliche, automatische Mails des Vermieters, keine Person hat sich blicken lassen oder sich interessiert. Dafür massenhaft Info- und Forderungsmails und immer doppelt. - Der Preis war soweit ok, aber der Vermieter hatte ausser der Reinigung ( die ja verrechnet wird) null Aufwand!
Die Wohnungsbeschreibung ist sehr sparsam und entspricht dementsprechend nicht sehr der Realität, insbesondere die Zugangstreppe ist extrem steil, und dies ist nirgens in der Beschreibung erwähnt. Wer wenig schreibt, sagt auch nicht viel falsches.
Einrichtung und Zustand der Wohnung: Diverse Türfallen und sonstige Einrichtungen waren lose oder defekt.
Teppiche und Sofa sind -ohne heikel zu sein- sehr grenzwertig im Zustand und Geruch...
Die Fenster sind nicht sinnvoll zu öffnen und die "Vorfenster" die billigste Variante die es gibt.
Duschschlauch ist defekt, wie so viele andere Details siehe oben.
Man den Eindruck, es interessiert niemanden. Schade.
z.B. wurden Zusatzteppiche und Kunstfellüberzug als Fleckenkaschierung verwendet (Sofa)
Die Einrichtung ist sicher Geschmackssache, jedoch hat man den Eindruck, dass ein Standard Einrichtungspaket hingestellt wurde, lieblos.
Das sind sicher alles Details, jedoch entsteht Qualität und ein gutes Gefühl genau da.
Trotz allem würden wir wieder buchen, für ein paar Tage geht das :-)

Property maintenance is badly lacking. There was one wine glass, and that was cracked. There were 2 small cereal bowls. Kitchen faucet was just loose (unsecured) in the counter, the microwave door handle was broken at one end and there were flowers on the dining table that had been dead at least 3 weeks. The non-stick frypan was in very bad shape, the carpet was loose at the bottom of the stairs and smelled very much like it had been wet for a while. Very small amounts (probably leftovers) of toilet paper and soap.

Das Appartement machte einen unpersönlichen, etwas abgewohnten und eher ungepflegten Eindruck (unangenehmer Geruch im Treppenhaus; klemmende Eingangstür; erneruerngsbedüftiger Teppichboden im unteren Teil des Appartements; zum Teil lose Bodenschwellen und Türklinken; eines von zwei Fenstern im oberen Teil des Appartements war verschraubt und daher nicht zu öffnen; das Fenster im WC war von außen mit einem Klebeband verklebt und daher ebenfalls nicht zu öffnen etc.). Auch für Selbstverpfleger ist das Appartement nicht wirklich zu empfehlen, da die Ausstattung der Küche zu wünschen übrig lässt (zu wenig Gläser; zusammengewürfeltes Geschirr; kein Toaster; keine Schneidebretter; Backofen, Töpfe und Pfannen teilweise mit losen Griffen etc.).
Von Luxury Residence kann bei dem Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis leider keine Rede sein - es geht hier offenbar eher um Gewinnmaximierung... :(

Es gibt nicht zwei Bäder sondern ein WC und ein Duschbad einander gegenüber. Treppenhaus zur Wohnung mit sehr schmalen Stufen und extrem steil. Etliche Mängel: Fenster kaum zu öffnen, Duschkopf undicht, Türklinke löst sich, zum Teil abblätternder Putz, Bad-Entlüftung völlig verstaubt.

einerseits liebevoll eingerichtet, leider kümmert man sich nicht um die Einrichtung. eine defekte Jalousie, kaputter Brausekopf und Türgriffe die nicht befestigt sind trüben den guten Eindruck. alles am ersten Tag gemeldet, es kam auch eine prompte Antwort, leider wurden die Mangel nicht behoben.

EVERYTHING! the apartment is in dilapidated condition as best, woefully in need of renovation. The couch is 40+ years old, has a dust filled smelly 'blanket' on it to cover it's poor condition. The carpet is stained, worn and has gum stuck in it, blinds are non-operational and do not darken rooms. Doors creak as if they could use a liter of lube, all in all it needs maintaince and the junk storage removed from the facility. This doesn't even begin to describe the stairs that are greater than 10% grade to climb and twist and turn and practically tumble on every step. TERRIBLE!

The apartment is in need of redecorating and a thorough clean - it needs new carpets, repainting and fixing some issues e.g. the door handles are coming off. It's in a lovely traditional building, great location and lovely view, it's just tired and needs refreshing.

Und es wäre schön gewesen wenn die kleinen weißen Flecken auf dem Fußboden im Flur und im Schlafzimmer nicht so sichtbar gewesen wären das hätte noch mehr wohl fühl Atmosphäre geschaffen. Und die eine oder andere kleinere Reparatur hätte es auch noch schöner gemacht ( zweite Lampe im Bad damit es noch heller wird, neuer Duschschlauch Kleinigkeiten und nur ein paar Anregungen kein Gemecker)

Sommige dingen stuk. Handvatten deuren zaten los. Op site staat dat er oven in zit maar is alleen magnetron. Navraag bij jullie gedaan maar zat echt geen oven in. Er zit een Nespresso koffie apparaat in appartement en geen dolce gusto zoals jullie zeiden. In sommige lampen zaten geen lampen in. Wc rolhouder valt eraf.

De trap naar het appartement is hoog, zeer steil en de vloerbedekking ligt op enkele plekken los. Verder zijn toilet en de badkamer redelijk maar gedateerd.

Het lukte niet om de tv aan de gang te krijgen, na een telefoontje aan de host werd beloofd dat ze terug zouden bellen met een oplossing, dit is niet gebeurt. Het licht boven op de slaapkamer was kapot en de gordijnen waren zo gammel dat open/dicht doen geen optie was.

Fazit: das Objekt ist schön, allerdings nicht zu dem Preis. Luxus ist definitiv kein Bestandteil der Ausstattung. Preis Leistung ist schlecht. Die Ferienwohnung kostet an einem Wochenende 700euro oder mehr. Wer dies zu dem Preis bucht bekommt leider viel zu wenig für sein Geld.
Die Ferienwohnung hat aber viel Potenzial. Wäre schön, wenn man die Wohnung dementsprechend pflegen würde.

Tijd voor een opknapbeurt! Afbreuk door losse trap-vloerbedekking, af en toe rioollucht door losse riooldop in de studeerkamer. Diverse deurklinken zitten los. Koffieapparaat stuk, glasservies is en wel erg bonte verzameling.

Een minpunt van in het centrum verblijven was (net als in elke stad) dat er best veel geld naar de parkeergarage is gegaan. Parkeergarage Appelaar is overigens handig dichtbij.

As soon as we booked we received mails from different companies and had to download an app so we could find the booking etc. After having paid we received another mail saying we had to give our creditcard details we they needed to pay for damages or something like that. That was 1 EUR to do that. I know it is only 1 EUR but if they do it to thousands of people daily it is a good business.
It said in the confirmation that we could check in no later than 22.00 or else we'd have to find a hotel. We drove from Denmark so we tried to plan arrival no later than 22. Around 21.00 we received a text saying we couldn't check in no later than 21.30. I tried to call the number but it was disconnected.
We arrived to the destination and rang the doorbell. It is a big house and apparently there are two apartments in the house. We mistakenly rang the owners side. He was kind and told us where to pick up the key since he has a company organizing things for him.
Picked up the key and entered the apartment. Old place but good enough. Unfortunately cleaning hadn't been too good. We found a ball of hair near the sink in the bathroom, pubic hair on a bath mat, more hair in the shower. When we went to bed I found more hair on the pillow. I know it won't kill us but it is a bad start on the stay.
I took pictures and sent them right away. Answer from the company was fast and they replied that it is human to fail - I agree. But there was a lot of hair and any inspection would have seen it. The office tried to make jokes about it - I know with good heart, but still.
We had a good stay and we were perhaps unlucky....

De huisvuilpas was niet aanwezig. Wij konden dus niet zelf het afval wegbrengen en hebben dat gedurende ons verblijf laten staan. Verder waren er niet super veel glazen aanwezig in de kast, maar daar viel mee te leven.

Geen negatieve feedback maar goed om te weten:
-De trappen naar de 2e verdieping zijn erg stijl, dat was geen probleem maar wel goed om van te voren te weten, mocht je wat minder valide zijn.
-Het raam openzetten (het daarvoor bestemde blok hout ertussen plaatsen) kun je het beste met 2-en doen.
Tip om te repareren: Diverse deurklinken (slaapkamers en badkamer) zaten los en vielen er af en toe af. Dat deed overigens niets af aan het verblijf en kan gemaakt worden.

Es gibt eine halsbrecherische Treppe, die man zunächst erklimmen muss, damit man in die Wohnung kommt. Nichts für grosse Menschen oder
Ältere. Ich war mit meinen Eltern da, über 75 Jahre, die konnten die Treppe nicht mit ihrem Gepäck laufen. Es dauerte lange bis meine Eltern rauf und runterkommen konnten. Die Treppe ist sehr gefährlich. Auch für Kinder völlig ungeeignet!!! Die Heizung funktionierte nicht richtig, überall sind Aushänge an den Wänden geklebt, was man machen soll, wenn die Treppe nicht richtig funktioniert. Wir haben alles gemäss der Anleitung gemacht und habe sofort bei Ankunft die Verwaltung informiert. Die Verwaltung ist erst 24 Stunden SPÄTER vorbeigekommen. Ich musste mit meinen Eltern um 20h abends in Daunenjacken Fernsehen. Hinterm Sofa war es dreckig und leere Wasserflaschen lagen rum. Wir hatten 3 Nächte gebucht und sind aufgrund der Kälte und Treppe nach einer Nacht abgereist. Der Vermieter wohnt in demselben Haus und hat null Interesse an dem Wohl der Gäste - Hauptsache es wird monetär abgeräumt. Ich kann die Bewertungen überhaupt nicht verstehen, die diese Wohnung hat und vermute stark, dass diese FAKE sind. Fazit: auf keinen Fall buchen!!!

Alleen een paar puntjes. De beschrijving in het huis zou ik ook in het Nederlands neer leggen, mijn moeder kon het bijv. niet lezen.
Als je het entree binnen komt, dan komt er een geweldige stank je tegemoet.
In het tapijt op slaapkamer en woonkamer zitten veel vlekken.
Vele deurklinken zaten letterlijk los en jammer dat er voor deze prijs geen bosje bloemen klaar staat ter attentie. Maar dat is misschien teveel gevraagd.
De badkamer was smerig, de bovenkant van de wasmachine was zelfs heel goor. Dat was wel jammer. Lampen die je miste in slaapkamer. Rolgordijnen in slaapkamer beneden en boven die niet goed werkte, naar beneden kwamen.

Nous étions pour notre part en voiture vous pouvez la garer dans la rue en face c’est gratuit de 23h à 9h du matin. Sinon l’appartement est conforme au photo. Très mignon.
Petit plan si vous allez en voiture. C’est mieux de prendre la voiture pour se rendre à Amsterdam même si il y a beaucoup de bouchon c’est vrai mais faites attention à l’heure à laquelle vous partez. Vous pouvez garer votre véhicule dans un parking P+R en périphérie d’Amsterdam vous payerai seulement 1€ (si vous garez votre véhicule après 10h) et 8€ ( si vous la garez avant 10h). La seule condition c’est que vous devez prendre le métro pour aller en centre ville pour payer ce prix franchement c’est le top. Renseignez vous.

Die Küche ist gut zum Kochen.
Die Treppen im Hausflur und im Apartment sind weder Kinder- nich seniorengerecht. Sehr mühsames Tragen des Gepäcks. Das Apartment benötigt dringend ein Update, es gibt Rohrleitungen, die sind mit Tape zugeklebt, das tape hält leider nicht mehr, aus den Rohren stinkt es. Der Teppich ist etwas unhygienisch. Die Klopapierhalterung ist lose...

Stairs could be a problem for either elderly people or people with heavy luggage as the first stairs are more like a ladder (160% rise). Lock to door of flat was a problem as the cylinder keeps shifting. Also the bathroom handle came off one morning and one had to be very careful coming downstairs from the upstairs bedroom as one could easily fall through the gaps. I would recommend a safety net there.
The restaurant where we picked up the keys were very helpful in allowing us to leave the luggage there on the day we left until we had to leave for the airport.
For us the apartment was ideal - quiet, great location and lovely view. We would definitely come back.

Rooms were quiet and comfortable, with an extra study room which was handy, and a nice dining table and lounge area. But there were chipped glasses & one cracked mug, not expensive to replace these and it would be a better look. The armchairs are very worn & feel a bit dirty. Seperate toilet and a washing machine.
2 Parking stations nearby, one has a stunning rooftop bar/cafe with a great view on the roof.
Easy wifi access, we had breakfast at Teds which has just opened next door, excellent!
Overall very comfortable & convenient place to stay.

Dass es sich um ein altes Grachtenhaus handelt, war bekannt - insofern keine Überraschungen, die ein Vorgänger im Kommentar vermerkt hatte.
Die Lage ist ausgezeichnet, das Haus vollkommen passend und auch sehr ruhig in einer Top-Lage!
Wir waren begeistert! - Außerdem war die Abwicklung rundherum problemlos.

Das Appartment ist dringend renovierungsbedürftig. Flecken auf dem Teppichfußboden und den Sitzmöbeln. Da gibt es modernere pflegeleichtere Fußbodenbeläge.
Sehr steile, 3-fach gewundene Treppe hoch ins Appartment. Fensterarretierungen teilweise zerbrochen. Fenster benötigen Keile, um geöffnet zu halten.

40 steep steps with heavy suitcases was a feat to get up .Needless to say that my son Brendon nearly concussed himself on one of the beams leading up the staircase.
The view from the apartment was quaint , these was a slight mouldy smell which was understandable given the age of the building .
Otherwise very comfortable after figuring out how the heating system worked .
It was spacious, clean, and conveniently close to all the sights in Haarlem.

The apartment was surprisingly big and stylish in a simple way.
Only niggles were the steep stairs and we didn’t have much luck with the TV or WiFi.
