The neighborhood
Our holiday home is in Salema, a small village close to Lagos. It is very popular amongst golf lovers, families and nature lovers.
A selection of restaurants & bars is there for you to explore both local and international food. We recommend trying fresh fish and seafood dishes! There is a supermarket 4 minutes away by car. Like Burgau and Praia da Luz, other beaches are just a short drive away. So whether you want to relax, go for a surf or enjoy a fantastic hike in nature, Budens is the place. And if you do crave the city life at some point, the city of Lagos is only 20 minutes away.
Getting around
You can reach Salema in about one hour by car from Faro Airport, and car rental is available in the airport's parking lot. By train, it will take about 4 to 5 hours.
The best way to travel the Algarvarian coast is by boat or car. However, if you want to explore the area, a (rental) car will make your life much easier as public transport is limited and will also get you around.
Parking is free and abundant everywhere in this area.

There is so much to like about this apartment. The location is perfect, right in the middle of town and steps from the beach. The apartment is well laid out, thoughtfully decorated/equipped, and functional. Everything was as advertised. We stayed in May with 2 young children, and appreciated that the apartment was child-safe and included a high chair and folding sleeping cot. The building was quiet, and it was an excellent place to stay with kids. We had to be vigilant about the house key and almost locked ourselves out once (only 1 key was provided, and the apartment and building door both lock automatically when they are closed), but this is a minor thing. It's a fantastic place to stay and we have a wonderful time there. We hope to stay there again soon.

The apartment and location is absolutely wonderful.
The agency managing the unit needs to significantly improve.
They had a cyber leak that released personal information that has been very hard to manage with no real help in managing the situation.
The check in instructions are not accurate, Access to the parking area changed a year ago with no update in the instructions. No guidance on how to find the entry from the parking area. No information on the apartment number, we needed to try the key in various doors.
Again the apartment and location is great. Hopefully the agent spends some time and updates there guide.

Fantastic time! The condo was great, clean, comfortable and in an awesome location. The view of the ocean from the condo was amazing, especially at night. The location was perfect as it is right on the beach and even though it was winter and a bit cold, we had a great time walking along the beachfront and enjoying some of the restaurants in town. We also loved the location as we could easily visit other parts of Algarve, including Sagres and Lagos. The host was great as they immediately answered any questions we had and provided all the necessary amenities. Hoping to make it back out during warmer months to further enjoy everything the condo and location have to offer! Highly recommend!

If you’re thinking about booking this place, just do it! I’m usually not one to write reviews, but this one deserved it. It’s hard to describe how perfect it is, you really just have to see it for yourself.
There are two ocean view balconies, one is great for the morning and the other in the evening. Remote control blinds are available for more privacy and sleeping in. You can see the ocean from laying in bed which is such a nice way to wake up and enjoy a cup of coffee. The beds are comfortable, kitchen had everything I needed, and location couldn’t have been better.
Salema is such a cute hidden gem of a town. Very quaint and small with the nicest people. The apartment is just steps away from delicious restaurants, the beach, and a market. I rented a cabana on the beach one day but then realized I could just use the sofa bed and have the same view with more privacy and everything I needed.
Everything about this airbnb and town was so perfect, I definitely recommend!

Location is great, the apartment is spacious, especially the bedrooms. The access to the second bedroom is a bit quirky, you have to go through the closet, but it adds a bit of charm in modern apartment. When things go wrong the rental company has little urgency to solve it. When we arrived it turned out there was no water pressure, the pressure was so low no water came out of the overhead rain shower. It took almost 2 days out of a 3 day rental to fix the problem, after way too much effort from our side.

4 of us stayed for a week in October 2024. The place fit our needs perfectly. It was clean. The bedrooms & bathrooms were modern and nice. The view from the unit was amazing. It's very close to the beach and some very good restaurants. We enjoyed staying in Salema which is much quieter than bigger towns nearby. The location allowed us to do day trips all along the Algarve coast. Hikes along the coast had beautiful scenery and we saw some fantastic sunsets. It was very nice to have parking right behind the building.

Tinha vista mar e com uma curta distância à praia! O cheiro da cozinha do restaurante em frente entra totalmente para dentro do apartamento! Restaurante R/c com meio metro de chaminé o apartamento é segundo andar era de esperar o que não é permitido por lei o restaurante ter só uma chaminé desse tamanho! Uma casa de banho com uma sanita que não se entrega a ninguém no estado em que estava automaticamente poderá se como foi feita toda a limpeza do apartamento! 4 dias para resolver a questão! Saída às 10:00h da manhã foi o primeiro sítio onde tive um horário tão cedo para sair dado a ter duas crianças pedi para sair entre as 11:00/12:00h foi me negado, evocando a equipa de limpeza estive no local até às 12:30h a tomar o pequeno-almoço e ninguém entrou no prédio só tem uma entrada! Estacionamento que dizem acessível para todos os carros tanto a entrar como a sair raspava a sair como a entrar, tenho um Tesla um carro normal com 6 meses! Para minimizar os estragos tinha de pedir a toda a família para sair do carro!

O apartamento é excelente e superou nossas expectativas. A cozinha conjugada com a sala de estar/jantar e a varanda externa proporcionam um ambiente aconchegante com uma vista magnífica da praia, que fica a poucos metros. É perfeito para tomar café da manhã ou lanchar desfrutando da paisagem. As duas suítes são espaçosas e confortáveis, uma com smart TV e varanda com vista para o mar. Sentar nas cadeiras da varanda no final da tarde para apreciar a vista e sentir a brisa do mar é muito agradável.
A proximidade da praia é um ponto altamente positivo, com apenas 2 minutos de caminhada. É fácil ir e voltar ao apartamento, tornando a praia quase como um pátio privado. Foi ótimo trabalhar remotamente, aproveitando a vista e a praia entre uma reunião e outra. Tem guarda sol e também o serviço de praia praticamente em frente.
Há vários restaurantes próximos, sendo 4 na mesma quadra, o que facilita almoçar, jantar ou lanchar. Salema é adorável e linda, assim como o apartamento. Quero voltar!

Awesome place to stay. What a great apartment. It was so clean and comfortable and had everything to make one’s stay so pleasurable. The location was fantastic and the views were terrific. It is set down a quaint little street just behind the beach and close to little shops and places to eat. The communication with the host was good. There were four of us (all adults) and the place was so nice and roomy. A great great choice to stay!!! I had considered marking the stay down a bit, as upon arrival, we got stuck in the elevator for 1.5hrs. We aren’t elevator people but we had luggage so thought we’d take advantage of it. But the place was too nice to mark down and we loved our stay after that incident. And I’m sure it was just “one of those unusual, once in a lifetime things”.

We absolutely loved this rental! The arrival instructions were thorough and easy to follow, and the apartment itself was beautiful and bright and clean. It felt peaceful and private, yet it was only steps away from the beach and many delicious restaurants. The bar, Atabua, downstairs is a great place to stop in for a cocktail - the bartender there is a true artist! Everyone we met in Salema was warm and welcoming. Overall this is a very nice place with a fantastic view of the ocean and the beach. A complimentary bottle of wine and a 1.5 liter bottle of water were provided. However, we rented five VRBO properties on our trip and this was the only one that did not provide bath soap or paper towels.
The parking right behind the building was wonderful. We found out at our other rentals that parking was some distance from the property and not very convenient.
The unit faces east/west. In the morning there is an intense sun that comes in through the sliding glass doors. We were there in March so the warmth from the sun was appreciated. I would imagine it would not be so welcome in the summer time. The only way to block it is to lower the shade but the shade is solid and you totally lose the view. You could literally sun bathe in the living area in the morning.
Communication with the management company was not great. They send a lot of information but some of it was not correct and trying to get in touch with somebody and/or get a response was difficult.

The apartment was clean and very well stocked. We enjoyed the bottle of wine the host left for us. We had plenty of towels. It’s perfect for 2 couples with en-suite baths in each bedroom. There was a little noise from the Curious Bar nearby that woke us up one night. Also the elevator didn’t work the entire time of our visit so luggage was a chore. Other than that we loved our stay!

I’ve stayed in Salema several times & this is hands down the best option. The view is absolutely stunning and not just from the living room but the balcony off the master is ideal for sunset viewing. The beds are so comfortable, the linens & pillows are high quality as well. The location is so convenient with 3 restaurants & 2 bars within 10 paces of the front door. Parking in town is difficult, so the private parking is priceless. Entry to the private building is tastefully designed & the elevator was helpful for our luggage. Each bedroom has it’s own modern bathroom & there is a half bath for the common area, useable for someone staying on the pull out bed. Clean & modern design, but still felt very homey. The kitchen was fully stocked & very clean, bathrooms were spotless. I’m having a hard time finding a critique, there wasn’t any late night noise. Seems ideal for kids or couples. 10/10 Great! Tranquil, comfortable, I slept like a baby! Check-in was easy & our host was attentive.

THE GOOD: The location for this property couldn't be better - you're so close to the beach you feel you're basically on it. There are ample restaurants and bars within 100m of the unit. It's clean, comfortable, and everything you could wish for in a beach rental. Communication with our host was also excellent. We would definitely return, and are actually planning our next stay there.
THE GOOD TO KNOWS: Bring your own bath products and beach towels, since they're not provided. Also, there were no trash bin liners, so bring some of those just in case (our host said he would reimburse us for the cost, but we didn't want to go back to the grocery store). You're asked to remove your own trash at the end of your stay (we found this very odd). You'll need to find laundry facilities if you plan on staying longer, as there is not a washer in unit. Parking is included, but it's a little ways away and up a hill from the unit. If you have a car and decide to drive by the unit to drop off/pick up your bags at arrival/departure, note that the street is one-way, very narrow, and it goes on for quite some time before you come to a turn around point. Fret not! Keep going and you'll eventually get back to Salema.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Good things first: *excellent* sea view with balcony, spacious appartment, professional and friendly staff. The bad: Be aware that the appartment is located next to the annoying "Aventura" drinking bar just 10 meters further down the alley. At check-in we were assured that this was not a problem re. nightime noise. However, that was far from reality. One of the bedrooms has a narrow floor-to-ceiling window facing "Aventura". Late evening until approx 2 am, drunk foreign tourists would convene outside on the tiny square, drinking, smoking, and yelling blending with the occasional silly high-pitch laughter of a female tourist being courted by a fellow male. No consideration whatsoever for neighbourhood area. All things considered (including relatively high rental price in high season), would I recommend this place to a friend? Not likely, the night time noise is simply too much of a deal breaker. Too bad for an otherwise very attractive spot, etc

This apartment in Salema was absolutely the best! It’s in the village part, steps from the beach and all the restaurants are within 300 ft. Balcony on the front has a great view of the beach and water, and back balcony offers great views of the west side of the village. Very well appointed and nicely decorated.

This was an excellent stay for us. What a view! So close to the beach and so relaxing with the sounds of the waves there. There was also some sounds from the nearby restaurants - enough for us to feel that there was a buzz, but not enough to keep us awake, so it was perfect! We were with two young kids, 4 and 2 years old, and found this to be an amazing place to stay - close to other great attractions in the area, right on the beach, and with some great restaurants and places to eat right there. Also - there are fossilised dinosaur footprints to be found at the beach… I don’t know why people don’t really talk about them, but our kids loved it!

Good location and view. Kitchen was the barest we've ever seen at an Air BnB so not great if you want to cook. We had to buy several basics such a knife. The toaster and microwave didn't work.
Biggest problem is that the front door swings shut easily and will lock you out. When this happened to us taking the trash out, we were told a "Team member" would be contacted... 2 hours later a locksmith showed up and wanted separate payment. Definitely wasn't a"Team" member, and this wasn't communicated to us. Very poor experience.

Thank you for your review, we appreciate all feedback and take it very serious. We will double-check the kitchen inventory. We were under the impression that we bought all the basic requirements to cook a normal meal, including knives, small blender, etc.
We have already replaced the toaster and verified that the microwave is in working order.
With regard to the lock-out situation. As it was already late when you messaged us, the nearest team that we could reach with the key was on the other end of the Algarve. That is why we called a locksmith, which was the fastest option to get you back inside the house. Even though I can see that it was really mentioned by my colleague that there would be a locksmith, I can see how there was some confusion created as she referred to them as key service (she is not a native English speaker). And that the general communication at this point could have been stronger, so we will revise that for the future!

Die Wohnung ist hell, einladend und geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Highlight: Betten, in denen man erholt und schmerzfrei aufwacht! Das Meer ist so nah, dass man die Wohnung beinahe nicht verlassen muss. Wenn man es trotzdem tut, lohnt es sich sehr. Viel Sonne und angenehme Temperaturen Mitte März, leere Strände, blühende Bäume, Büsche, Blumen... Empfehlung: Selbst gemachte Muffins und Kuchen in der Pastelaria Solmar, Nazari Restaurant im Eco Camping Salema, Love Burgau und Brizze Bar im Nachbarort Burgau.

While it is possible to find elegant accommodation in Salema, this place can’t be beat for location, convenience and comfort. The beach is just the other side of the street and the ocean’s waves provide perfect soothing accompaniment. And great dining just outside your door. We would stay here again when we return.

This apartment is prime in the village, with a great sunrise view and ocean sound in the living room. Spacious balcony in the living room facing the ocean and an additional balcony from the bedroom, which is good because, during hot summer days, you can sit there in the shadow. The kitchen is well equipped - dishwasher with capsules, and a capsule coffee machine (capsules can be bought in the nearest grocery store). Plates, cups, glasses, pan - everything is there. The apartment has one (guest) toilet, and two toilets with a shower in each bedroom. Good powerfull hair dryer! you need to bring your own shower gel, shampoo etc, only soap is provided. Each bedroom has connected twin beds, but very comfortable. Different types of Pillows. The living room has a corner sofa, which can probably be transformed into extra sleeping space. Wifi speed is good enough to work, zoom etc. The host provided a possibility of late checkout.
Overall great stay! Salem's is the loveliest village in the region. No washing machine. Free checking until 21:00, if you arrive later there is extra fee paid in cash (30 EUR from 21:00-23:00, 50 EUR from 23:00).

Die Wohnung ist fantastisch: Einrichtung und Ausstattung bestens, die zwei Zimmer mit jeweils einem Bad wunderbar. Hervorzuheben ist das Wohnzimmer mit einer riesigen Glasfront zum Balkon und somit Blick zum Meer bei jedem Wetter möglich. Die Lage ist wunderbar: quasi direkt am Strand. Der kleine Ort ruhig und sympathisch!! Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt sehr genossen und würden jederzeit wiederkommen. Wenn überhaupt etwas zu beanstanden ist, dann, dass es nur einen Schlüssel gab, was getrennte Unternehmungen schwierig macht.

We wanted to love it. The location is excellent just feet from the sand and several nice restaurants. The view is much better than the photos can make it look. We waited on the street for half an hour for someone to arrive with keys, communication to let us know when they would arrive would have been helpful. The linens did not smell clean. Also there were no top sheets on the beds and the comforters had a very bad smell. We did send a message requesting sheets and wash cloths, but received no response or said items. Also some basics such as salt pepper and oil would have been appreciated.

Neat, clean property, exactly as pictured. The view is as outstanding as it looks in the pictures. Even the little balcony off the primary bedroom has a stellar view. We explored the Algarve from here and felt grateful every afternoon to return to such a special place.

The agent that met us was very abrupt and didn’t explain anything. We had to email the property management company on where the router (wi-fi) was located and the password. The agent only gave us one key and this was a burden when 2 couples are renting the unit. We found this very burdensome. Although the response via email was good, there didn’t seem to be a genuine interest in our satisfaction. I would not rent again from this company..

So beautiful I didn’t want to leave! Great communication. Easy check in and check out. We did lock ourselves out 1 time and they ran a key over ASAP. Maybe a lock box would be nice? But we all enjoyed our stay. Beautiful apartment . I would definitely stay here again!
