The space
Located just steps from the main promenade, our apartment offers easy access to island beaches and all the amenities you would expect to find nearby. Explore Olhão's cubist town architecture, cobbled backstreets in the fishermen's quarter, and the amazing fresh market and restaurants.
Step inside and be greeted by a fantastic hallway with the traditional decorations of ceilings and faux marbling walls. The first floor features two spacious bedrooms, one of which has open doors to the balcony and a small attached bureau. The second double bedroom is directly connected and only divided by the original wooden double doors. Using the small and steep stone stairway, you'll reach the second level, where the living area with an open kitchen and a great outdoor terrace with an extra toilet is located. The cherry on top is the magnificent sun terrace on the fourth floor, one of the highest in Olhão, offering panoramic views of all the surrounding islands, Armona, Culatra, and Fuzeta.

The neighborhood
Olhão is located next to Faro. It has a lovely and lively old centre with a rich history of traditional Portuguese culture. From here, you can easily explore both the east, west and inland Algarve but Olhão is perhaps most famous as the access point to the beautiful and peaceful islands of Armona and Culatra by ferry. There are public and private ferry options are available, and they are located just a few minutes' walk from the apartment.
Due to the central location, you will have lots of shops, restaurants and bars to choose from in the close vicinity of the apartment. In addition, a supermarket is located at less than 5 minutes walk.
Getting around
Getting here is not complicated. The simplest way is from Mercado and Olhão. Once on Avenida 5 de Outubro, pass the Market towards Jardim Patrão Joaquim Lopes, taking the first street on your left. Walk a few meters and this house will be on your left.
You can quickly get around on foot or use public transport or a taxi/uber. A hire car is recommended if you want to explore the larger Algarve area. Parking in old town Olhão is accessible in most places, except along the waterfront. It can be challenging to find it, but a spot will usually be available close to the apartment. An extensive paid parking area at a nearby hotel is a good alternative for those uncomfortable navigating the old town streets.

The flat is part of a house and the flat is kind-of virtual with a steep stairs going up - absolutely worth it, stunning view from the terrace, even more so from the roof terrace. But the steepness is worth mentioning if you have small children.

It is true that the stairs leading to the 2nd floor are steep but we considered it a good exercise for our thigh muscles ☺.

The house is pretty central to the area so good for a local market, restaurants and the 15 min ferry to Armona Island which has the most incredible crystal clear beach ever!
There’s a good supermarket 10 mins walk from the house (Continente Bom Dia Olhão) if you want to eat at home.
You definitely need to be good with stairs as it’s a set of stairs up to the first part of the house and another up to the living area and kitchen.
The house has good kitchen facilities and everything you need for a comfortable stay.
To be amazing it needs a few more things - a sofa for the lounge, sun loungers for the top terrace and it feels like some of the space needs re-thinking to make it work better - particularly if more than 2 adults are renting.
We loved that that the house had an interesting history and used to be lived in by Francisco Fernandes Lopes.

Jede Etage im Haus hat ihren ganz eigenen Charme und Stil. Durch die Deckenhöhe muss man ein bisschen Treppen laufen, bei uns auch mit Kindern kein Problem. Wir haben die Zeit hier sehr genossen.

Attention chambres attenantes, aucune intimité.
Salle de bain petite et vétusté, douche c’est usité, qui fuit ++, odeur de canalisation très présente.
Vétusté de la maison ( odeur de moisi ++, tache d’infiltration d’eau au plafond) plancher bruyant ++, pas d’air, pas de VMC.
Je ne recommande pas du tout ce logement.

Elle est très bien située à quelques minutes à pieds de tout (mer, marché de fruits, légumes et poisson frais, commerces,embarcadères bateaux pour les îles..)
La façade est fabuleuse avec sa faïence et sa porte colorée

We mainly ate out but the kitchen was fully equipped if cooking in (& a barbecue on the terrace), two supermarkets & the fresh produce market - all within short walking distance.
Beds were super comfy.
Lots of great places to eat, again all within a short stroll including the ‘all the fresh grilled fish you can eat for €16’ place around the corner - incredible!
The ferry to Armona Island is a couple of minutes away - great to go for a beach day.
As the description & others have said, this house would not be suitable for small children or anyone with mobility issues - the stairs are stone, steep & three flights if you include the one to the roof terrace! But what a view when you get there - watch the sun set with storks & swifts flying around, just beautiful.
Would recommend & will definitely be back!

Poltronas confortáveis, boa iluminação por toda a casa. As escadas de acesso à cozinha são difíceis por serem estreitas e terem degraus bastante altos, mesmo com corrimões. Ainda bem que tem outro WC nesse piso! Gostámos muito! Recomendamos e ponderamos voltar.

The main bedroom was stunning, with a striking plaster ceiling, three doors with shutters, each with a tiny balcony fro which you can look down on the street. There is a small work area with a desk.
The second bedroom is cramped and has no windows, but there is room for cases in the hall and there is a fan and AC.
The location is fantastic. A two minute walk to the market and the waterfront. Lots of good restaurants nearby. In fact, friends who have visited Olhão several times, gave us recommendations for shops and restaurants before we booked; all were within a five minute walk.
The hosts were proactive, clear, and responsive in their communication.
Highly recommended.

Aber das beste war die Dachterrasse mir einem einmaligen Blick auf die Stadt !es wäre schön gewesen,wenn es 2 Liegen auf der Terrasse zur Verfügung gestellt wären. Ein kleiner Minus der Wohnung-die fehlende Spülmaschine!trotzdem würden wir auf jeden Fall diese Unterkunft erneut buchen!

The balcony and roof terrace are stunning, it was great to have a little barbecue of fish from the market, and sit watching the stars in the evening.
Overall would definitely recommend.

Bathroom shower leaked badly and bad drain smell when running the sink tap
Tv didn’t work (we didn’t need it anyway)
WiFi didn’t work and was only fixed half way through the holiday
There is an oven in the kitchen but no trays or pans to use for the oven
Overall, the property is beautiful. It was clean and the beds were comfy. The roof terrace is lovely and the location couldn’t be better. However, there were a few things that didn’t work well. It was frustrating that the WIFI didn’t work, the team were responsive when we mentioned this but it still took nearly 4 days to resolve when they eventually brought us a mobile router to use. There is only one rail for clothes, no chest of drawers. Shower leaked badly and needs fixing.

The accommodation is split across 3 floors with some steep narrow steps to the kitchen and again to the rooftop terrace. We were fine but might be a struggle for people with some physical impairments.

The hob (stove / cooktop) didn’t work. Though an initial WhatsApp message was responded to quickly, it was never fixed so we had the whole week without full cooking facilities, which is a shame as it’s so close to the market and cooking as a family is important to us. Several messages were exchanged about it, but never any apology or sense of urgency. Even a video WhatsApp (which I suggested) would have been good, to ensure the issue was understood or to check if there was something we could do.
Also - the stunning top terrace has virtually no furniture.

À notre arrivée la machine à café n’était pas nettoyée, sur la terrasse il y avait des mégots parterre, et certains verres étaient sales.
Il manquait des linges de vaisselle et des essuies-mains et certains ustensiles comme un tire-bouchon.
Il faudrait aérer de temps en temps les lits.

Die Unterkunft ist durch die hohen Räume, Kassettentüren, eine sehr steile und schmale Stiege usw. nur schwer zu reinigen. Aber auch die Küche und deren Ausrüstung waren nicht sauber.
Bei einem fast 3-wöchigem Aufenthalt pro Person 2 Handtücher (ein großes und ein kleines) zur Verfügung zu stellen und auf Nachfrage mitzuteilen, dass man gegen Aufpreis noch gerne weitere zur Verfügung gestellt bekommt, dürfte bei einem Tagessatz von 96 Euro einmalig sein.
Noch ein Hinweis zu der Stiege, die zur Küche führt: Personen mit einer körperlichen Einschränkung sollten so informiert sein, dass sie vor einer Buchung selbst entscheiden können, ob sie sich das zumuten wollen.
Die Aussage "Parkplatz inbegriffen" ist irreführend und wird nachdem man nicht mehr kostenfrei stornieren kann, folgendermaßen ausgeführt:
2)Es gibt eine große Anzahl von Orten, an denen Sie parken können. Die meisten davon sind gebührenpflichtige Parkplätze oder erfordern eine Lizenz. Schilder informieren Sie über den kürzesten Weg und weitere Informationen zu den einzelnen Parkmöglichkeiten.

perfect location. old, tradional Portuguese terrace house that was so unique and very tastefully done. It was perfect location within 1 minute walk from main street for restaurants and waterside .
communication and check in was great. We loved our little stay at this fabulous place. A few things to note wifi is not great and this apartment has very steep and narrow stairs leading up to kitchen and lounge area. Not ideal for older people. We would recommend this little gem with the yellow doors
