Private double room in a canal house dating from 1608 situated on Singel Canal in the oldest part of Amsterdam. Centrally located.

The space

This private room available for the exclusive use of the guests is just like an apartment without a kitchen; the room is situated on the first floor at the front of the house. This Airbnb-space includes a large bedroom with exposed oak beams and an authentic brick wall.

Bathroom:
Adjacent to the bedroom is your private bathroom (with shower, sink, mirror and toilet) for the guests only. Please note that there indeed is a shower in the bathroom, but no bath! In the room itself, there is a double bed consisting out of 2 latex mattresses each measuring 90 x 200 cm. Please note that the bed consists out of TWO single mattresses measuring 90 x 200 cm and not out of one double mattress measuring 180 x 200 cm.

Heating in the room: There are two large radiators in the room located beneath all of the windows and one can adjust the temperature in the room by turning the temperature-knobs on these radiators.

There is also a sitting area with a couch, 2 chairs, cable television, a DVD-player, internet using Wifi as well as internet by the use of a cable. There are lots of books, mostly in the English language on various topics and a computer-desk in the study corner with a chair; a 'laptop friendly workspace' in case you need to get some work done.

On the booking platforms this space cannot be called an apartment because the space does not include a kitchen. However, there is a coffee machine and a water kettle to make hot beverages. There is a small refrigerator for your convenience as well as cups, glasses, plates and cutlery.

Sheets and towels are 60° Celsius cleaned.

The surface area of the space is ± 50 m2.

Trains, buses and metro are within 5 min. walking distance.

My two cats 'Lucas' and 'Snout' do not enter the guest space on the first floor. This private room is cat-free.

Guest access

This private room is situated on the first floor at the front of the house and can be reached by entering the house through the main door, going up the stairs to the first floor. There is no elevator. The stairs are steep. See the photograph of the stairs in the picture-portfolio. Elderly people and people with limited ability need to be aware of this.

If you want to travel with your child, I have one baby bed available or a small (!) child can sleep on the sofa. Please inform us in advance when you wish to bring an infant or small child with you so we can prepare the room accordingly.

Guest interaction

Usually I am around, only on some days of the week I work outside of the house; usually on Tuesday-, ~Wednesday- and Friday-afternoon. Normally I am around and always reachable via telephone, sms, and e-mail. Please feel free at all times to knock on my door in case you need assistance. I live in the same building. My quarters are situated on the ground floor, which is the floor above your room and one room on the first floor of the house. Please note that music, noise and the like must be taken into account because of guests staying in the upstairs guest room.

During the day I occasionally will have a violin student come for a lesson, so you may hear some violins playing in the background.

In my neighborhood, there are lots of things to see. I live in the oldest part of Amsterdam.
There are restaurants, shops, several organic food shops ('Ecoplaza' on Haarlemmerdijk 160-164 and 'Marqt' on Haarlemmerstraat 165) and museums.

Getting around

At short walking distance from my house (5 min. walk) is the Centraal Station (central train station) where trains can get you to other cities in Holland and from where trams and buses and the metro can take you anywhere in the city.
As a capital city, it is very easy to reach from Schiphol Airport and to get around by public transport. Trains, buses and trams will get you to your destination in an efficient way. Even better for short distances and a local experience is of course by bicycle!

If you want to travel to other cities and places, normally public transport is also very convenient depending on the location of your plans of course. We will share a handy website with you to plan your route!

Other things to note

When you are here I will always explain to you the use of the emergency-exit; on the round bedside-table, there is a key to the window next to the bed. This is your most efficient emergency-exit. Put the key in the lock on the window, the lock will open, open the window and you climb/jump on the roof below. It is very easy.

I live in the same building. My quarters are situated on the ground floor and one room on the first floor on the rear side of the house.
During the day I occasionally will have a violin student come for a lesson, so you may hear some violins playing in the background.

It is important for guests to realize that this private room is situated in a house in the very centre of Amsterdam in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the old city, a house more than 400 years old. This means that the levels of sound isolation required for modern buildings cannot be met without eliminating the charm and character of a 17th Century house. In other words: the sound-isolation in this house is not ideal.

On the floor above the guest room, live the upstairs neighbors. They are two professionals sharing an apartment. They try to be quiet because they are aware of the fact there is a guest-room below them.

We loved our time Amsterdam, and enjoyed the central location of this beautifual canal house. You feel like you are staying in a piece of Dutch history in this hisotric home. The warnings about the steep, spiral staircase are well justified and would not be appropirate for anyone with any mobility issues. We went in March during a quiet time of year -- I imagine it might be loud in the summer months with a lot more avtivity going on outside. The location is very central -- 5 minute walk from the train and right on a beautiful canal. The owner Everet is lovely (as are the two cats) and you feel like you are guest in someone's home. The apartment comes stocked with complimentarry drinks, cookies and chocolates. Very thoughtful!

Really loved staying here, the most beautiful place! It’s in such a good location - literally a 5 minutes walk from Amsterdam centraal station. The apartment is beautiful and a stones throw away from central station. It’s overlook a canal and it’s beautiful in the evening to look out and just admire the surroundings.

The location is amazing and Evert is such a lovely host. It is technically a self contained apartment within a big home so it’s completely private and you have your space and privacy. I would highly recommend and I would look to book again when returning. It’s a 5 star rating from me!

The stairs are authentic, which means extremely steep and narrow. There’s not much to be done about this if you’re to preserve the heritage of the space but it’s the only thing that I didn’t like

I had the absolute pleasure of staying at this charming 17th-century canal house, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. Evert is a fantastic host who made us welcome from arrival to departure. The room is beautiful and spacious with a wonderful view of the quiet street below and the canal. The bed is roomy and very comfortable.

The location is fantastic - close enough to restaurants, bars, public transport, etc to walk but just far enough away to be nice and quiet at night.

The two cats who live downstairs in a separate part of the house are also a major attraction.

Excellent location, minutes from the train and bus station and loads of great bars, brunch spots and restaurants nearby. On the quieter side of central Amsterdam which is perfect, and 5-10 mins stroll from the main tourist spots.

Room is warm, comfortable, huge! The sofa and tv is an added bonus. We’d stay again!
Nothing to complain about at all! However if you struggle with stairs they are VERY steep, the steepest stairs I have walked up, so make sure you are fully mobile before booking!

The guest suite was absolutely charming as had we had purposely chosen the older part of the city for our three night’s stay. Evert was most helpful and accommodating, we couldn’t ask for more. The location was excellent, most sites easily walkable. If not, I would suggest an Uber vs a taxi, which was almost twice the price.

When and if we return, we would book Evert’s place again, if available!

Fantastic host, great location, great communication overall, the space was clean and had everything you might need! We had a very pleasant stay and would highly recommend this place to other travelers. Looks just like the photos and yes the stairs are steep but it's well documented in the details/photos and should come as no surprise to future guests. Our host was kind enough to bring out bags up for us and also he allowed us to store our things before check in (while the room was being cleaned) which was a huge help!

We loved our stay in Amsterdam, and this canal house made it so special. The location was amazing, right in the center of Old Amsterdam and about a 5 minute walk to Central Station. Although a very quiet location, it’s easy to walk to restaurants and shops. We walked everywhere we went. The house is so unusual and historic, and we loved staying there. The amenities met all our needs. Evret was a great host; very responsive and helpful. He ever carried our luggage up the steep stairs to our room!!! We would definitely stay there again.

The studio is exactly as pictured and very comfortable. Evert is an excellent host; welcoming, very responsive and eager to help. The stairs are historic but have rails on both sides and we received assistance with our luggage. Coffee, tea, other beverages and some tasty cookies were provided - an extension of Evert's hospitality. There are lots of cafes within walking distance, as is the train station, Anne Frank house and canal tours. We loved our 3 night stay!

This is easily the cutest Airbnb I've ever stayed at. Eric was incredibly sweet and attentive—he lives on the first floor with his two cats. The cats would greet us in the lobby every morning on our way to grab coffee and again in the evening when we came home from dinner and drinks. The space was beautifully decorated and so comfortable. Aside from the incredible decor, we also had beautiful views of the canals!

The best part about this spot is the location—it's in the heart of Amsterdam, so you're able to walk or bike everywhere without needing to Uber!

Evert was a wonderful host! This airbnb is truly one of a kind and my husband and I felt so lucky to have stayed here. We loved the location because very central to museums and central station. Our favorite part was being greeted by Snout and Lucas every morning and evening as we came and went from the house. Evert was extremely hospitable allowing us to do our laundry our last night and helping us with our luggage. I would 100% stay here again without any doubt in my mind. We will miss Amsterdam but will be returning soon!

We had a wonderful stay at Evert's handsome, well-located flat. He could not have been more helpful and was easy to communicate with.

The unit is on the first floor (which in America would be called the second floor) and there is a very, very steep set of stairs to climb. I had back surgery a few years ago, so at first I was a bit taken aback, but we got used to the stairs and managed fine. If you have physical limitations, you should take this into account.

Evert has impeccable taste. The overall feel of the place is more eclectic chic rather than elegant, but it's a great suite. All the amenities--coffee, tea, mini-fridge, etc, are provided. The bed/linens are also top-notch.

Our stay was wonderful. The room was really spacious, comfortable and loaded with historic charm. We had everything we needed. The host lives on site. He was available but we had all the privacy we needed. The one glitch is that the front of the house was being re-finished and the project was delayed. We got a notified a week prior to our date that the building was shrouded in scalfold. Unfortunate indeed, but it was the contractor at fault not the owner. The rental agency and owner were quite understanding and gracious in a difficult situation. It worked out. I would highly recommend this property.

We had a wonderful stay.
The location was very central and convenient.
Evert greeted us on arrival, carried our heavy bags up the winding staircase, explained the area and the town to us, and provided us with ample supplies of coffee, tea, juice and a number of “goodies”.
We left early in the morning but Evert was there again to carry our bags down and say good-bye.

Evert was very accommodating! The room is spacious and the location is perfectly situated close to Central Station, Dam Square, but not too close to the action at the same time. The bathroom is quite big and the shower was maybe the best I’ve ever had in Amsterdam!

Evert’s canal home is 5 star, we had an incredible “back in time” stay. It is an otherworld experience staying in a 400 plus year home in Amsterdam. The photos represent the space perfectly, so cozy and warm. Evert is an ideal host and provided us assistance in every way we needed. The home is centrally located, we walked everywhere…. As a couple, we enjoyed having plenty of space for some “me” time within the accommodation. I can’t imagine a better experience.

My son and I had a lovely stay in the canal house. Centrally located, it was an excellent base to explore everything Amsterdam has to offer. We were able to walk to most of the places we wanted to go. Central Station was a 5-10 minute walk away.

The room was VERY well equipped and had many thoughtful touches, including numerous guidebooks, plenty of dishes and the fridge even contained a few local beers and cheeses. It is exactly as pictured and provided plenty of room. The water pressure was excellent as well. The room does face the street (and has a lovely canal view) but we didn't have any issues with noise. We also didn't find the stairs to be too much of a challenge but they are, as advertised, steep.

I would highly recommend the 17th century canal room to anyone visiting Amsterdam.

We loved Everts beautiful place. It was a real treat to stay there to come back to the room after exploring Amsterdam...it was a haven! The space is lovely with beautiful antique furniture and lots of room to relax and watch the world go by on the canal below. It was near enough to Centraal station, so easy to get to and walkable to many places. We enjoyed meeting the cats and Evert was a perfect host, very helpful and we enjoyed the very generous welcome gifts of wine and chocolate. There was also lots of tea and coffee and eco friendly toiletries and the bed, bedding and wool duvet was very comfortable and luxurious. We would love to and hope to come back and stay again!

The room is absolutely stunning with beautiful light coming in through the windows, a view of the canal, and a cozy feel. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was functional with a great shower and Evert was very generous in providing coffee and treats. Evert greeted us at check-in (we communicated through WhatsApp) and the process was very easy! He was available by message to answer all questions and provided great recommendations. The location is fantastic. Easy to walk/bike anywhere with the central station also only about 8 mins away by foot.
We were not bothered by the stairs, but do be aware they are very steep as stated. This is of course to be expected in the Netherlands, but do take into account if you have issues with mobility.

While having an artistic and nostalgic feel, it also has a modern indoor home functional design. Old furniture, old paintings and a large collection of books provide a lot of reading enjoyment at night. The elegant host was very warm and helped us carry our heavy luggage up and downstairs. We plan to take our son back here next year and stay longer. In addition, the transportation is very convenient and the scenery outside the window is very good.

My partner and I went on a 7-week trip around the world so we stayed in a lot of different places, and this was far by the best.
Evert was our host. He was easily contacted, respectful, and helpful with any of our inquiries. His place was absolutely beautiful, the photos do not do it enough justice. It was impeccably clean, very comfortable (including the bed and pillows!), good heating, a great shower, beautiful views and lots of charm. It felt like our home for the week.
Evert had a booklet with helpful instructions regarding the place and also suggestions for local food and services. We were also welcomed with complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits, wine, juice, and milk.
If we have another visit to Amsterdam we would love to stay here again!

C'est une pièce louée chez l'autre qui vous demande d'ouvrir deux serrures et de refermer ces deux serrures chaque fois que vous passez la porte d'entree de l'immeuble ce qui est un peu laborieux, il vous demande de rester au calme et de ne pas faire de bruit en revanche au fond de la musique toute la journée.
Dès le début l'hote m'a demandé d'éteindre le chauffage lorsque je sortais de la maison alors que c'est un chauffage qui met plusieurs heures à chauffer la maison une fois éteint. Sachant qu'il faisait 16 degrés lorsque je suis rentré dans la chambre j'ai tout de suite compris qu'il cherchait à faire des économies d'électricité mais que faire j'ai eu besoin de chauffer il a éteint le chauffage à deux reprises pendant la nuit je me suis réveillé car j'avais beaucoup trop froid j'ai donc attrapé froid et je suis tombé malade et le lendemain il m'a dit c'est bizarre ça a dû s'arrêter tout seul sauf que le système est manipulable de chez lui et c'est lui qui l'éteint à sa guise à éviter en hiver en tout cas. J'ai l'impression que cette chambre est là pour lui payer ses factures lui est au chaud et nous au froid..

Evert is the most incredible host - super accommodating and has thought of everything!

The bed is super comfy - two duvets were a winner, juice and a fully stocked fridge and bathroom complete with hairdryer and curlers!

The location is perfect: super close to the train station when you're travelling with luggage and situated between all the best places to visit. The view is stunning and one of the best in Amsterdam which added to the whole experience. The room itself is enormous, and the sound of violins playing below was wonderful!

There is a board in the room with recommendations from previous guests - we booked ahead for the majority of places we ate/drank. Stumbled upon some fantastic markets and boutiques in Jordaan. You are a stones throw from Haarlemmerdijk with the vintage shops and cafes and the bar on the corner (Louis) is brilliant to stop before you head out for the night.

We had the best stay in Amsterdam for the first time and will be back!!!

The stairs are very steep so if you have mobility issues it may not be the place for you. It’s an old canal house so the stairs are part of the charm! Incredible!!! We stayed in 4 different Airbnb's in our 2 week trip through Europe and this one was our favorite, by far the best. Evert and his place (and the kitties) are so lovely! The room is stunning with a gorgeous view of the canal. Plenty of amenities and the comfiest bed we stayed in on our trip :) When we come back to Amsterdam this is absolutely where we will stay!

The most amazing AirBnB I have stayed in to date. Everything was perfect. Private room with beautiful furniture. The bed was so comfortable and finally some pillows that you can get a good night sleep on. The location is amazing too, walking distance to main attractions and food, and many bike hire shops around. Evert is the best host, he is very responsive and helpful. He made us feel right at home. We loved his local recommendations and appreciated the early check in. The following day, our flight wasn’t until 6pm and he kindly let us keep our furniture in the hallway until we left. To top of this amazing stay, he teaches violin so the home was filled with sweet notes of chords all day! We would recommend this stay to absolutely everyone!

The room is fantastic and the person who met us at the apartment was very friendly and kind. Evert couldnt have been more helpful. He helped with the bags on the narrow stairwell and provided excellent info both in writing and in person about the area. The apartment is unique, spacious and well located. its simple to find. We were able to walk to get to all the key sites. Its very clean with a really comfortable bed, nice desks for writing and a comfortable living room. The shower is great. The hosts have thought of every little detail including shampoos, ear plugs, lovely coffee and teas, juices in the fridge etc. There isnt a closet but there are loads of hooks, drawers and 2 lugguge racks so its very simple to get to your things.
I didnt like working with the rental agency instead of my local host. If I used the booking.com app I would only get the rental agency who would tell me to text the local person but I couldnt text. So it was really awkward to get info back and forth. They didnt communicate to the local person what time we were arriving for instance. Evert the local person was fantastic. Secondly, I was surprised to learn that they needed a deposit until a few weeks before my booking. This info was sent to me after I left home and I couldnt get the text message from my bank to approve it. While it would have been simple to do from home, it was tricky with my European SIM card and on unsecured wifi. This requirement should be really well communicated in advance. Third, for some people, the narrow stairs could be an issue. For us, this was part of the charm but it may not work for people who struggle with stairs. Fourth, it would be nice to have a keyless entry so one doesn’t have to organize a time to meet, with air travel unpredictable, meeting someone at a specific time can be a challenge. It worked out for us as Evert went out of his way to be available but a coded lock entry is much simpler.

This property is just as pictured. Lovely old house with scary OMG steep, narrow, dark, and winding stairs. The stairs (which are mentioned in the rental) and the lock up and get out process are the only negatives. Evert our host was delightful and so helpful. He allowed us a early check in on our arrival day which was much appreciated. Bright and comfortable room. Plenty of extra towels and linens. Fans and screens for windows. Coffee, tea, juice, and biscuits also provided.

We found the neighborhood to be quiet and central to so much. The Central train station a 10 minute walk. Anne Frank House about 20 minutes. Lots of restaurants and quaint bars. You are on the fringes of the Red Light District so expect some interesting “window shopping “ in the area around the rental.

Very close to central station, within close proximity to all the tourist spots but very quiet.
The apartment itself is beautiful with lots of history and character.
Very specious and comfortable.
Evert is an exceptional host and was kind enough to help us bringing our luggage up and down the stairs! His cats are also very sweet and really make the stay feel like home.

My wife and I had a terrific stay in Evert’s apartment. In a 3 story building on the second floor of a 400 year old historic property right on the canals close to the train station, Dam Square, and Jordaan. Great restaurants close by. Evert was the perfect host. Had everything you need from shampoo to tour books to adapters for plugs. . Only difficulty would be if someone has issues with stairs. The spiral staircase from the entrance floor is the charm of the building and was really cool, but could pose issues to someone that has issues with stairs. One of the coolest places we have ever stayed.

Evert was such a friendly and responsive host. He made us feel at home during our stay in Amsterdam. The unit is in a fantastic location—we could walk to all tourist sights as well as local restaurants.

Evert communicated with us upon arrival and met us at the front door to begin a walk-through. He showed us the entire unit, gave clear instructions, provided us with a set of keys, and let us know that he was available if needed. There were 0 disturbances, and the unit was well-kept and clean!

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights and could not fault this beautiful canal house. Very short walk from the Eurostar terminal so a small case on wheels was no problem at all. The host Evert is a lovely, friendly man who lives in the property and can always be contacted if need be and also via WhatsApp. Spacious clean and quiet room with quite simply the biggest selection of bathroom toiletries we have ever seen! Outside temperature was around 28c when we arrived but even though there is no air conditioning, the room was very cool as it didn`t seem to have the sun shining directly onto the front of the house. 2 electric fans also helped. The location is perfect for walking all around the city. I recommend Polly Goudvisch for an amazing breakfast! The best poached eggs on avocado toast I have ever had! (Near the A`dam lookout as you depart from the free ferry.)
We could not fault this property unlike a lot of others we have stayed in.

Such a privilege to stay in an original canal house from the 1600s. We loved the staircase, the big windows onto the canal and hearing music around us. Evert is lovely and has the apartment generously stocked with treats. We loved coming back, after a day of exploring, to refresh before having more adventures. The apartment was very charming and rustic but with a modern bathroom. The location is perfect, just a short walk from the central train station. The apartment is on the second level with a narrow winding wooden staircase. It was manageable but we had to tread carefully. Lovely stay.

Delightful and spacious apartment oozing Dutch charm, furnishings and period features. Situated on Singel canal and conveniently located near public transport. The area is quiet and relaxed.

The apartment is very clean and has been thoughtfully provisioned with books, brochures, stocked fridge, tea, coffee and snacks. The bed is very comfortable with nice linen.

The apartment photos and description is as advertised. I could understand some people may have concerns about the stairs, but you would miss the privilege of an authentic canal house with all of the history. If only the stairs could share their secret story?

Location! Location! Location! We took the train from Schiphol (AMS) to Amsterdam Centraal and walked to this wonderful place with 2 full size suitcases. This place is: beautiful, spotless, spacious, has a comfortable bed with crisp linens, well maintained and very centrally located. There is a lot of attention to detail and I really appreciated Evert’s hospitality and tips he offered to make our stay even more enjoyable.

I was initially hesitant to make the reservation because there is no kitchen/kitchenette. DO NOT let that stop you from booking! There is a Nespresso coffee machine and Evert even provides a very nice selection of coffee pods, tea, biscuits and an Amsterdam chocolate bar. There is also a mini fridge to store basic food items and also many options for breakfast, lunch, coffee/drinks & dinner within a very short walk.

We would most definitely stay again!!

We wanted a nice place to stay near the station, a tall order in Amsterdam. This was 5 minutes walk away and quiet and stylish. Apartment was well equipped with tea and coffee, toiletries in the shower room and books about Amsterdam. Evert was a very welcoming host and access to the apartment was easy. We felt like guests in a proper home. The cat was delightful extra, we know he's not allowed in the apartment but he welcomed us back from dinner in the hall.
The view across the canal is particularly pretty at night
No complaints. I had to take my socks off to avoid slipping on the shiny wooden floor, that's all!

There is a lot to love about this space! Being in a 17th century canal house was truly a one of a kind experience. Evert allowed us to drop our things much earlier than scheduled checkin which we really appreciated! The home is so close to the train station and city center, so much to do and see nearby. With old homes, we did experience some cold weather which made our room quite cold but Evert was quick to address. The upstairs neighbors were quite loud, that was probably our one complaint, but again older home and thinner walls. Overall, this was a great stay and I would recommend and stay again!

We had the most wonderful stay at Evert's lovely 400 year old canal house. The location is superb, very close to Central station and right on the canal and within easy walking distance of all the museums and sights as well as numerous good restaurants. The bedroom and sitting area are full of character, very spacious and beautifully appointed. You want for nothing and Evert is a superb host - always available to help but very respectful of one's privacy. We cannot wait to return to Amsterdam and stay in Evert's fabulous house again.

This is a very pleasant and spacious room with a separate sitting area in a historic building in a great location on Singel Gracht. The photos are accurate. Evert is a very pleasant and helpful host and provided many amenities that brightened the stay, from coffee, tea, and juice to cookies.

0ne thing to keep in mind. Old canal houses have steep and narrow stairs. If this is a concern for you, the room is not a good choice. But Evert will be happy to carry your luggage up and down the stairs.

This place is amazing! Its a 400 year old building in perfect condition! Has a beautiful view of the canal and surrounding area! Very large and spacious. Interior decorating, furniture, and lighting are first class! Evert is an amazing host! He met us when we arrived and explained everything in great detail! He told us about places of interest nearby and answered all of our questions. We would highly recommend this beautiful home! This is one of my favorite Airbnb rentals, and I would definitely stay here again! It was very nice to meet the host, Evert, and it was great to be able to store our bags in the morning before the cleaner had the chance to come in. Evert was also so very nice to take our bags up the very steep staircase!

The location is absolutely perfect and an easy walk from Amsterdam’s Centraal Station. And we especially loved Snout (a resident cat who adopted us for the weekend and who was very lovable)!!

This 17th century building is full of character in a perfect location with great hosts – I definitely recommend and will stay here again if the opportunity arises!

Wer authentisch und typisch Amsterdam leben möchte, ist hier genau richtig. Wunderschöne Wohnung in einem Grachtenhaus am Kanal. In echt fanden wir die Wohnung sogar noch schöner als auf den Fotos! Sehr sauber sowie hübsch und passend zum Altbaustil eingerichtet. Die Lage war perfekt, um Amsterdam zu erkunden. Der Bahnhof und viele Sehenswürdigkeiten waren in fussläufiger Nähe. Besonders hervorzuheben ist der überaus nette Vermieter Evert, der uns jeden Wunsch erfüllt hat! Er hat die Wohnung anlässlich unseres Jahrestages romantisch geschmückt sowie Kekse und Wein für uns hinterlegt. Am letzten Tag hat er sogar unsere Postkarten zur Post gebracht. Vielen Dank nochmals für alles! Auch gab es Kaffee, Tee und Milch in der Wohnung mit einem kleinen Kühlschrank. Die zwei Hauskatzen waren das I-Tüpfelchen, total süß und verschmust. Uns hat es an nichts gefehlt und sollte es uns nochmal nach Amsterdam verschlagen, werden wir diese Unterkunft auf jeden Fall wieder buchen.

Perfect location, perfect host and a truly wonderful apartment.

It's a no brainier, just book it.

The photographs are 100 percent accurate, it is the genuine article.

The only caveat is the steep ladder... I mean spiral staircase. If you are not fully mobile, this is not for you. I had a dodgy knee and it was a slow and VERY careful process.

Your host Evert will help you by taking your luggage upstairs on arrival and departure.

We would stay again without any thought.

The perfect location in Amsterdam, overlooking a scenic canal with an easy walk to great restaurants, shops, historic sights and everything you might want to see. We loved how spacious and tidy the room was, the bed and linens were very comfortable, and the space was well equipped with toiletries, coffee and teas, and tourist guides and maps. We especially loved the old warm charm of staying in this 17th century canal home, with exposed brick and beams and an incredible original staircase - steep and winding - that added fun and ambiance to our experience. Evert was great at communicating with us on arrival day, with easy directions on letting ourselves in. We later met Evert and his two adorable cats...he was very warm and friendly and told us a little about the historic home and gave us great recommendations on places to eat. This is a really beautiful room in the centre of Amsterdam, near the central train station.

Evert was so kind and welcoming with a fantastic eye for detail - so many interesting objects in the room. Felt like a home away from home.

Evert very thoughtfully left lovely juice in the fridge and ear plugs in case we were disturbed by noise on the street (we weren’t).

This is a very elegant, old world charm bnb. There is a lot of space. The place is immaculate and overlooks the canals. Crisp white bedding. Comfortable bed and linens. Plenty of blankets, towels, coffee and tea. Strong water flow and a large shower. There is a hair dryer, curling iron, regular iron and ironing board. The walk up and down is steep but it is only one flight and anyone in good health should be fine. Our host Everett insisted in helping us up and down with our bags. He was also very helpful with booking restaurant reservations, taxis and in general guiding us on the best way to get around Amsterdam. The cats are lovely but if you don’t like cats no worries, they stay out of the way. There is no evidence of cat hair anywhere. Highly recommend this spot.

This place is amazing! A true canal house with charming features (wood beams, brick wall, wooden floors) and pretty views. The bed was very comfortable, and the hosts provided plenty of blankets/pillows/towels. The room is huge - plenty of space to put your suitcase, as well as a separate raised space with a couch and television. It looks just like the pictures. The location is wonderful - the part of town is quite picturesque and it's a short walk to great restaurants and a lot of the major sites. Only about 5-6 minutes walk from the Central train station too. Evert was a great host - he was patient with us being an hour late arriving due to a delayed flight and gave us a great overview of the room/area when we arrived.
A very small thing, but the water pressure in the shower isn't the best. Also - not a problem for us, just a note for those thinking of booking: this is a true 17th century canal house, which means it has VERY steep stairs to get to the room! Don't drink too much ;)

Der Inhaber der Wohnung war super nett, hat uns sogar das Gepäck ins Zimmer gebracht, was eine besondere Herausforderung ist , da die Treppe selbst ohne Koffer etwas beschwerlich zu besteigen ist.
Er hat auf deutsch mit uns kommuniziert, was für uns eine große Erleichterung war und wir konnten ihn jederzeit erreichen bei eventuellen Fragen, ein sehr netter Gastgeber und eine ganz besondere Wohnung und Lage direkt in Amsterdam.
Wir haben im Parkhaus für 2 Nächte 110 € bezahlt, das war auch der günstigste Preis, aber dafür kann ja der Gastgeber nichts.

We’re a Dutch couple and one of us lives in Amsterdam and the other had lived here for a couple of years as well. We wanted a mini holiday in our own city for my birthday and this house was the perfect place for our weekend! The house is indeed a typical Amsterdam Canal house and the room was exactly as in the pictures. Evert, the owner, is extremely friendly and if you’re lucky you can hear one of his students play the violin.

If you want an authentic Amsterdam experience then this is the place to stay. I felt like a local staying here. The location couldn’t be any better. Minuets away for the train station. The room itself was gorgeous. It was authentic and original. The host was amazing always going above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. I can’t imagine there’s many places to stay like this in the city. Honestly if you want the true Amsterdam experience then stay here.
This is easy...wish we could’ve stayed longer!

Emplacement idéal proche du canal pour visiter la ville à pied et en vélo.
Très peu de passage dans les rues adjacentes, idéal pour se reposer et passer de très bonnes nuits.
La literie est très confortable, la propreté irréprochable et tout est mis à disposition dans l’appartement (capsule Nespresso, gâteaux, chocolats, bouteilles d’eau).
Le propriétaire est très accueillant, très discret et de très bons conseils.
Nous réserverons dans ce même appartement lors de notre prochaine séjour au Amsterdam sans aucune hésitation.

We stayed on two separate occassions within a month. Loved the old canal house. We had a delightful room on the first floor with a fabulous view over the canal. Very spacious, no cooking facilities but a small refrig and tea and coffee making facilities, also some basic cutlery and crockery. It was very private but our accommodating host Evert ensured that he was there to take our suitcases up and down the single flight of stairs on each arrival and departure. The stair is a beautiful old curved timber stair, steep and narrow but with rails on both sides and caused us no issues. The very large room was tastefully furnished and felt very homely. It was cold outside but two panel heaters ensured the space was warm.
Very comfortable bed, good bathroom.
A short walk to the railway station.
If you are after a "character" stay where you can soak up the atmosphere of Amsterdam I would highly recommend the first floor room in Evert's old canal house.

It’s uniqueness sets this property apart. After years of European city breaks my husband and I have become uninspired by generic hotels and hostels, craving a more authentic quirky charm. This property exceeded our expectations. The property is centrally located so within a 10-15 minute walk from Amsterdam central station and Anne Frank House and about 25-30 minute walk from Foodhallen and Museumkwartier with Dam square literally on the doorstep. It’s a canal side property which clearly has historic heritage given the incredible interior. It was a warm, relaxing and cosy place to return to after a day of exploring the city.

Evert made this visit to Amsterdam worthwhile.
He is always available and assists with your needs/questions.
Location is spot on, everything in walking distance and in a nice neighborhood alongside one of the canals.
The room was very spacious, a mix of 17th hundred architecture with exposed brickwall and wooden beams, a lounge section with a booklibrary, a modern bathroom, a self catering room with mini fridge, Nespresso , kettle and a large selection of coffee and tea to choose from, a very comfy and cosy bed.
This was a great experience, thank you again Evert

We loved the authenticity of the house as well as its location. I feel that we could call it a suite. We had a living room area, bedroom area, bath, as well as a room with a coffee machine and electric kettle. Coffee and tea were provided to make. We also had use of a hair dryer, iron, and Tv, DVD. We had a beautiful view of the Singel canal from our window. It was within walking distance of the Anne Frank House, Centraal Station, and many shops, and restaurants. Our host, was wonderful and very helpful. The bed, pillows, and bedding were quite comfortable.
Although we would definitely stay there again, The canal house suite is in someone's home which might be off-putting to some people.

We enjoyed our stay at the Classy room 17th Century Canal House. We were on the 2nd floor with a wonderful view of the Single Canal. The bed was very comfortable and the room and bathroom very spacious. Evert, our host, was very helpful and ordered a cab for us and carried our luggage up and down the steps for us as there is no elevator and the steps are circular. The canal house was within walking distance of the Anne Frank House, Centraal Station, and several excellent cafes, shops, and restaurants. There is a coffee machine as well as electric kettle, small frig, hair dryer and iron.

Evert's apartment is probably one of the coolest and most unique places I've ever stayed! The apartment is located in a classic Amsterdam house that has a little bit of slant to it which is really cool! The house is right on the canal and the apartment has a great living area with big windows overlooking the canal that let a lot of natural light in. The apartment is a great size for a couple looking for a cool place to stay and it's also in a great location. It's roughly a 10 minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal station which is a big reason why I decided to stay here. Aside from that, it's roughly a 10 minute walk from the city center and there are plenty of restaurants and shops right around the apartment. On top of the 17th century charm that this apartment brings, it's also outfitted with modern (and functional!) appliances and amenities to give the place modern comfort. Evert was a great host, he met us at check in and gave us a comprehensive tour of the apartment with everything we would need to know. He's super friendly and even has a stockpile of toiletries for those lacking things like shampoo, etc. Whenever I return to Amsterdam I would definitely love to stay at Evert's place again.

We have stayed first in the basement floor, and we didn’t have the feeling of being on a basement at all. This is because it is incredible big as well as perfectly decorated and enlighted. There we had the nice surprise of finding almost a full equipped kitchen, that we found very useful for preparing small improvised meals. Seriously you will not feel dissappointed if you book this room!

Regarding the guestroom on the first floor, it is exactly as we expected according to Evert’s photos. The views to the Singel’s canal are beautiful.

Evert as host could not be more kind with us and he really cares that you feel as comfortable as possible during your stay. His cats and specially Snout are super sweet and easy going, making our stay even better, as we love cats.

Evert’s Airbnb location is absolutely perfect for exploring not only Amsterdam city but also the entire North and South-Holland region, as it is at less than 10 minutes from Amsterdam centraal station.

To sum up, we couldn’t have expected to have such a nice stay at Evert’s Airbnb. So if in the future I return to Amsterdam I will choose this Airbnb again. 😊

Evert's house is absolutely fantastic. The location could not be more convenient (you're literally a 5 minute walk from the station) and charming, right on the Singel. The house itself feels like stepping back in time, and the view on the canal is beautiful. We were greeted by Dmitri, Evert's assistant, who has been extremely helpful and kind. Communication was excellent throughout, and both the check-in and the check-out processes were flexible. Everything was provided in the restroom; there was a Nespresso machine and all varieties of pods, and tea bags as well.

As already pointed out, the stairs are steep and narrow, therefore it would not be advisable for someone with mobility problems. Also, Evert has two wonderful cats, that was a plus for us, but one thing to note if you're allergic.

We will definitely be back!

We knew that the location of Evert’s apartment was second to none. And we hoped that the apartment itself would be spacious (it was), clean (it was) and comfortable (it absolutely was). This was such an amazing first experience of Airbnb and one which will always be very special to us.
Evert’s home is very charming, a beautiful clean, relaxing space with added luxury, it’s overlooking the Singel canal.
Evert has been the most perfect host, very friendly and welcoming, promptly answering any questions but also respecting our privacy during our stay.

This room is so pretty and very clean. The bathroom is a decent size and updated which is so nice to find in a old canal house. The view is amazing, and quick access to public transportation at Centraal is so helpful! As with all canal houses, the staircase is very steep, but you get more used to it after a while! Evert was very kind and flexible with our check in and check-our times, and let us leave our bags until it was time for our flight so we could enjoy our last morning in Amsterdam. Definitely recommend this room!

This was my 2nd stay at Evert's Amsterdam place, and it was as wonderful as the last! The place was beautiful, even better than the photos. I had everything I needed, including extra bedding, extra towels, shower essentials, Nespresso coffee and tea, and even chocolate! Evert is a wonderful host if you're lucky enough to meet him, and he arranged everything from making sure I got keys seamlessly, to storing my bags before and after check-out, which was a big deal for me as it allowed me to explore the city luggage-free easily. He is the nicest guy, and so helpful, and I love his cats Lucas & Snout - who are very sweet and social, and even greeted me whenever I'd come home! Location is the best (in my opinion), close to central but away from the tourist crowds but only a few steps away from some of the prettiest neighborhoods in Amsterdam. Highly recommended, and can't wait to be back soon! Thank you Evert!

5+ stars - Evert’s place is not only in the best location (in my opinion), but it is also so beautifully designed and decorated. Evert really has a great eye and I absolutely LOVED the apartment studio!!! It had a wonderful view from all the windows of the canal, and yet was so private and quiet at night (as opposed to a lot of other neighborhoods in Amsterdam). The surrounding area and Jordaan is absolutey beautiful and perfect for those looking for a quiet and scenic escape in Amsterdam away from all the partying and red light district craziness (which is only 10 minutes away if you want it but honestly this place is not really for you if that’s the focus of your trip). There’s lots of cafes, bike rentals, shopping, and very good restaurants only 5 min walking away.

At the Airbnb I had all the amenities and home comforts such as tea & coffee, shampoo & fresh towels, bed slippers. Evert also left out a variety of guidebooks and tips for the area, which are always helpful! The bed is comfy and so was the desk to work from—Tons of room to relax and spread out. I do want to point out that this studio is on the 2nd floor and not for anyone who can’t do stairs... however these windy tall stairs are very typical of traditional Dutch houses. That being said, it was not an issue for my stay and I even had help bringing my luggage up.

Evert is a great and communicative host, highly responsive and so polite and respectful! He made sure my stay was comfortable and getting the keys was very easy. I also needed my bags stored and he accommodated me and made sure my things were safe. I was very impressed :)

Thank you Evert for a wonderful experience and a perfect home away from home in Amsterdam. I’m looking forward to coming back and I hope to stay with you again!

My partner and I stayed at Evert's place for our 24 hour layover in Amsterdam. His house is amazing in every way ---- walking distance to the central train station, perfectly situated near shops and restaurants and so many great neighborhoods in Amsterdam, beautifully decorated with gorgeous views of the canal and so full of history and charm. Evert was such a kind host and fascinating to speak with. He provided great recommendations and even printed out the train schedule for us on our way out. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer! We're looking forward to our next visit and will definitely book with Evert again.

He quickly runs through everything you need to know about the place (the door, the cat, logistics), and in case there are missing factoids he has a handy booklet ready on the table for reference. Everts place is fantastic. Super cool look and atmosphere. Be aware the stairs are a challenge! You have a great view of the canals, and lots of dining and museums in walking distance. Evert also had a handy dandy bundle of suggestions for all your dining needs. There will also be violin practice some mornings. Yeah I agree with all the good stuff....but can I just focus on the steps leading up to the room? ? It's about the coolest thing I've ever seen. Just to imagine the hundreds of thousands of feet that have helped smooth them into this sort of melting wood, Antoni Gaudi masterpiece. If I had the money I'd buy them from Evert and stand them up as an installation in a mueseum - instant fame. Snout the cat was really cool too, we are cat people so it was really sweet to have him hanging around like we had been buds for years.

I had such a lovely stay, it was difficult to leave. From the moment I saw the pictures I knew I had to reserve. It is rare to stay in such an authentic place. The room is exactly as the photos, sparkling clean and very calm. The view is of course spectacular as is the architecture. Street noise from the picturesque canal-front location was not an issue and if it had been, Evert had left sets of ear plugs. The linens were beautiful, the bed very comfortable, magazines, tea, coffee, a fridge, umbrellas - everything has been thought of. Evert's communication and directions were clear, detailed, timely, welcoming and thoughtful as was our meeting at the house. The location is fantastic and this was simply an exceptional experience. We could not have picked a more perfect place to stay. Evert was a gracious host and his home was amazing. Tastefully decorated and with so many interesting books on music and other things. The bed was extrêmely comfortable, and the shower was spacious with perfect water pressure. We loved hearing the violin during the day, but our favorite thing of all was Evert’s two sweet cats, Lucas and Snout, of course. :) Lucas was a bit more shy, but still super sweet. We loved being greeted by Snout each day, and wished I could have let him hang out all night in our room! He reminded me a lot of our cat, Sage. Anyways, I can’t recommend Evert’s home enough. The location was perfect too!!

I cannot imagine a more perfect or interesting place to stay in Amsterdam. I use airbnb a lot, but this was one of my top experiences. We had a great time staying with Evert, the room had everything we needed and was bigger than it looks in the photographs. The room has loads of character, was spotlessly clean with a nice, modern bathroom and was much less noisy than anticipated considering the central location. You must stay here. 10/10. We absolutely fell in love with Evert's airbnb. Charming and extremely beautiful home, which was designed several centuries ago with stunning antiques and a perfect setting. We loved: Enjoying the view of the canal daily, while drinking coffee or sipping wine. The location was perfect for all of the locations that we walked to and enjoyed touring your beautiful city. The space was amazing for all of our needs and extremely well-equipped with the essentials that we enjoyed. Additionally, it was quaint and charming. Beyond our expectations. The culture of Amsterdam was very interesting and all of the people we met were very helpful. We visited the local bar Van Zelan's and were able to talk with the locals each day. Oh,!the location! Great location. Being in such an old building with limitations as to any structural changes does create a few drawbacks. The space was a little cold, the bathroom was small with only a shower. That being said, the bathroom was functional and some compromises are expected in such historic buildings.

Evert really has been thoughtful in equipping the apartment with tea, coffee and toiletries. He respectfully asks that you do not wear shoes in the apartment & even supplies slippers. It is also very thoughtful to leave earplugs. We did not need them but it is good to have the option! I booked Evert's room for a weekend away for my boyfriends birthday. On our check in date, he let us arrive at 11am and we went straight into the room. It was exactly as pictured and the room was beautiful and there was everything we needed, e.g towels, refreshments. He even provided us with booklets and flyers about what we could do in Amsterdam. Throughout our stay he was very helpful and attentive and nothing was too much hassle for him. My girlfriend and I stayed at Evert's house for 3 nights around the 31st evening and have been highly satisfied by our stay. Evert is very kind, attentive and made all his possible to make our stay perfect ; and it was !

The room is almost like a totally independent flat in Evert's house with a private toilets and bathroom. It is a very beautiful and classical house with high value furnitures and equipment (beds are awesome).

You can also find a Nespresso machine, a kettle with several teas and herb teas. All the products Evert gives in the room are quality and chosen with attention.

Overall, it was a very nice, classy and confortable stay !

I've been the first guest that was hosted in at this magnificent apartment....

there are no words to describe how nice it was....

the place is clean, beautiful and the attention to details is so so nice...

Cant recommend more then that.....its just great!
