The Lemon Lodge is an off-grid eco escape nestled between the Monchique mountains and the rustic coastline of the Algarve for true nature lovers.
The space
The Lemon Lodge is a renovated farmhouse split into two unique self sustainable lodgings. Water is pumped from the land and the power is generated from the sun.
Surrounded by pine trees and situated on a hill, the suites have spectacular views of the valley and the food gardens.
The two lodgings are inviting, comfortable yet rustic, as inspired by nature.
Ziggurat is a spacious two-person suite with a private terrace where one can relax in the hammock or light up the barbecue.
The modern interior is mixed with rustic Portuguese details. The high ceiling and soft romantic colours make you feel right at home.
The suite has a large bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and overlooks the garden.
The living room has a fireplace and an open-plan kitchen that caters for all your needs.
As we believe the kitchen to be the heart of the house, the suite comes with complimentary tea, locally roasted coffee and essential kitchen herbs to enjoy your homespun meals. The suite is also provided with handcrafted biodegradable soap and shampoo made locally in the valley.

★ Our sundeck is situated next to the sauna. Please feel free to use it and enjoy a cold dip in our salt water dipping pool.

★ There is a permanent ice bath at the Sauna area. If you are familiair with Cold Exposure you are welcome to use it.
★ Yoga deck
★ There is a beautiful spacious deck with an amazing view over the valley.

Please note that arriving after 9 PM is not recommended. Check-ins after 6 PM only in consultation with our local hosts.

The neighborhood
The Lemon Lodge is closely located to the village of Aljezur, which is less than a 10 min drive or 45 min by foot. The walks in this area are stunning, and fortunately, the Lodge is situated next to the famous Pilgrim walk "Rota Vicentina" with the option for a circular route.
This whole part of the Algarve has, in recent years, emerged as a surfer's and hikers' haven. Hugged by Cape St Vincent Natural Park and the beautiful mountains of Monchique, there are lots to explore by car, bike, horse or foot.
Getting around
✈︎ Faro to The Lemon Lodge, a 1-hour drive
✈︎ Lisbon to The Lemon Lodge is a 3,5-hour drive
We recommend having your car explore the beautiful surroundings. However, if you wish to discover the unbeaten tracks, we suggest renting a 4x4.
Once booked, we will send a clear route description on how to get here.
Please note that the road towards our lodge can be navigated with a regular car but it is not a paved road.
A pick-up can be arranged at the village of Aljezur when guests arrive after sunset.
Other things to note
We ask our guests to leave their four-legged friends at home as we have four dogs, two cats, two horses and lots of chickens walking around the land.
★ We started in May 2021 and have had amazing reviews during this first season. Unfortunately, due to a change in administration, we had to change our account here and couldn't take the reviews with. Yes, the drive up there is adventurous but once you’ve mastered the bumpy ride, you get rewarded with the most amazing setting. The house is beautifully designed, very well equipped and the colours and lighting are stunning and well thought through. We got to meet Michelle, who is such a lovely person. The dogs and cats came to visit us regularly which we loved. We explored the premises which are vast and absolutely beautiful. What a great place! We hope to be back again someday.

Wij vonden de locatie wel heel erg afgelegen, bij het boeken hadden we daar niet echt notie van. De route er naar toe off the road is best lang, slechte weg met veel kuilen en grote hobbels, dus je moet een goed auto hebben. De outdoor faciliteiten en sfeer vonden wij niet echt verzorgd en comfortabel om een lekkere dag door te kunnen brengen bij het huis.

First of all, communication with rental Valley went rather difficult. We had to call the owner to know the digit code for the lock on the door. Upon check-in, no one came to say hi or did so for the length of the stay. Nor did anyone call to check if all was ok.
When we returned at night, we almost had to break into the house because the lock is very sturdy and we almost didn’t manage to turn the digits.
Kitchen is poorly equipped. 2 fires, no microwave or oven, no dishwasher, no detergent to wash dishes by hand.
The bed is very good!
The dog is very kind and welcoming.

The house itself is stunning and really well designed. Kitchen has everything you need. We cooked a lot on the grill in the back.
Would have liked screens on the windows to let some fresh air in, as bugs up there can be tricky.

From the moment we arrived, our hosts were beyond welcoming—super friendly, easygoing, and full of amazing recommendations for restaurants and things to do in the area. Their local tips truly made our stay even more special.
The accommodation itself is a dream! The house is an architectural masterpiece, with stunning interior design and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, making cooking a joy. Outside, the space is just as spectacular—plenty of room to relax, soak in the peaceful surroundings, and enjoy nature. As we were unfortunately unlucky with the weather, the oven was a scenic place to relax and warm-up. We would recommend to bring warm clothes and maybe even shoes if the weather report is not in your favor :)
Speaking of the surroundings, the calm and chill atmosphere made it the perfect retreat. We‘ll definitely be back:)

We also did the breathework session, and clairvoyance session with Helena and both really added to our experience. We have never been able to relax as much as both of these sessions allowed us to do. We couldn’t thank her more for these wonderful experiences.
Overall we couldn’t recommend this place more. Total tranquility, peace, and contemplation.

Cons worth noting:
-From the main road it is an additional 10min drive on dirt roads through mountains and our rental car was not really equipped for it. It kept us from exploring outside the airbnb bc the drive was hard
-There was a smell of feces that emanated from the bathroom that seemed worse on some days than others
-There are no fans/ac and only one window in the bedroom so it can get warm and buggy. Woke up with mosquito bites all over. I wish they had screens on the windows!
That being said, I would still visit again if I were looking for a quiet and private place to reside for a long period of time

Private, beautiful and geared towards rest and wellness this place is a perfect sanctuary.
Alex was on hand with recommendations for running routes, help with the sauna and ice bath and for friendly and welcoming conversation.
The property is chic and well thought out with a log fire, a very comfy bed and spotless linens.
A thoughtful gift of tea, wine and coffee was left for us on arrival.
If you want somewhere beautiful and calm to stay, much more special and unique than a hotel and somewhere to really feel at home then Lemon Lodge is for you!

It felt a little bit more like Glamping to us. We understood that the whole concept is around sustainability and that is great, but the price we paid (€200 a night) was just a bit much for what you get. The villa is not completely closed off so bugs can easily get in. We had an ant problem in the kitchen so you constantly have to wipe the counter and that is a bit off putting to use the kitchen in general. The toilet wasn’t flushing properly and either kept running or the water in the tank didn’t refill. The shower head holder was also broken. We stayed 6 nights and there wasn’t any cleaning or emptying of the bin’s, and we were out of toilet paper by then. I understand we can ask for these things but I would suggest to the owners to maybe incorporate this a little bit more. Again, beautiful beautiful property and very nice people running it. But the price was definitely too high for us for what you get in return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in a more remote, quiet area of the Algarve. But still only a 15 min drive to the nearest town, Aljezur. Thanks for a very memorable stay!

Bei leider nicht all zu gutem Wetter eher etwas kalt (wofür die Gastgeber natürlich nichts können). Aber wir mussten definitiv jeden Abend ein Feuer machen und es war trotz dicker Decken und extra Wolldecken eher kalt nachts.

We love the goal of the owners to create a sustainable, self providing place to live
Nothing really, the only thing that might be tricky for some travellers is the road to get up the hill towards the Lemon Lodge. Its doable, but you need to be aware of the bumpy dirt road going up hill as the last part
