The space

Kerkstraat runs from the centre towards the sea, and this apartment sits above it: eighty-two square metres, more floor than most places in Zandvoort, reached by a flight of stairs.

The living room is the heart of it, bright and wide enough that four people are not on top of each other, with a bunk bed set into it for the children. The bedroom is separate and quiet, with a queensize bed. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a dishwasher, which is not a luxury when you are cooking for four.

The neighborhood

Zandvoort is a busy North Sea beach town 30 minutes from Amsterdam, known for its wide sandy beach, the Circuit Zandvoort, and lively summer atmosphere. It gets busy in peak season: parking is limited and the beach fills up fast, but the dune walks and beach clubs make it worth the crowds.

Kerkstraat is the street you would pick to walk everywhere: the beach is minutes away, the supermarket around the corner, the restaurants and shops at your front door.

Getting around

Zandvoort aan Zee station is about seven minutes on foot. Haarlem is 10 minutes by train, Amsterdam Centraal around 30 minutes, usually with a change in Haarlem. Schiphol is roughly 40 minutes by train.

Other things to note

➤ Parking. This apartment does not have a parking space, and paid parking applies across the whole of Zandvoort every day, from 10:00 to 22:00 between March and October and from 10:00 to 20:00 between November and February. On the street in the centre the summer rate is 4 euros an hour, rising to 7 after two hours. The cheapest realistic option is the LDC car park in the centre, a few minutes away, at 20 euros for 24 hours or 45 euros for three days in summer. On the street, parking is free between 22:00 and 10:00. If you can come by train, do.
