The space

Morning light moves across the patio while the kettle boils, and by the time you sit down at the oakwood table with coffee, the only sound is wind through the hills of Hortas do Tabual. This is the quiet end of the Algarve, the stretch between Sagres and Lagos where the land stays open and the Atlantic sets the temperature.

The apartment was fully renovated with Bali-style furniture and gives you around 80 sqm inside. The living room has a 55 inch smart TV, plenty of closet space, and a sofa that converts into a double bed. Off the living room is the master bedroom with a 180 cm bed and a view over the hills, and this is also where the work space sits: a desk with an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. The second bedroom has two single beds of 90 cm. One bathroom serves both, with a shower, a bathtub and a separate WC, useful after a cold day in the water.

The kitchen is the largest room in the home and is set up for people who actually cook: a big fridge, a full set of pans and knives, and a dishwasher so nobody argues about the washing up. The washing machine is here too.

Outside is where most of the day happens. The private patio runs to about 40 sqm and faces southwest, so it holds the sun into the evening. There is a heavy oakwood table under an apple tree (October guests get free apples), string lights, a stone oven and a sun sail for the hottest hours. At the side, a large picnic table and a barbecue look out over the hills. The entrance side faces northeast and has two sun loungers and a parasol, the better spot for morning coffee out of the heat.

The living room has reverse air conditioning, which heats as well as cools. Two portable heaters, a fan and a dehumidifier are there for the shoulder months. All windows have manual shutters and rattan roller blinds, and the living room front door has a blackout curtain.

The neighborhood

The southwestern corner of the Algarve is the wildest part of the coast. Between Vila do Bispo and Sagres the land flattens into farmland and low hills, the beaches sit at the bottom of unpaved tracks, and the Atlantic decides what kind of day you get. It draws surfers, walkers on the Rota Vicentina, and people who want the coast without the crowds.

The home stands in Hortas do Tabual, a small hamlet just outside Vila do Bispo. Zavial, one of the finest beaches in the Algarve and a reliable surf spot, is 2 km away. Vila do Bispo has the nearest supermarket, bakery and a handful of restaurants, a few minutes by car. Sagres is ten minutes for surf shops, fish restaurants and the walk out to Cabo de São Vicente. Lagos is twenty minutes when you want a town with a marina and a busier evening.

Getting around

Faro airport is around 1 hour 20 minutes by car and is the practical arrival point. Lisbon is roughly 2 hours 45 minutes. Lagos has the nearest train and bus station, 20 minutes away. Public transport out here is thin, so a rental car is strongly recommended.

➤ Check-in from 16:00. Keybox at the property, code in your Rental Valley guide (sent 7 days before arrival). Early check-in is subject to same-day availability, contact us on arrival day to check, though this is limited in peak season.
➤ Arrivals after 22:00 are at the guest's own risk as our support line will be closed.
➤ Check-out by 10:00. Late check-out is subject to next-day availability, contact us the day before departure to check. Limited in peak season.
➤ There is a security camera on the street side of the property. There are no cameras in the patio, garden or any private area.

ℹ By law, Portuguese property owners must report guest details to the immigration authorities (AIMA). We collect these securely via your Rental Valley guide, sent one week before arrival. Please ensure all details are submitted before your arrival date.
