A 20 m2 studio for two on the ground floor of an old bakery building, three minutes from the centre of Zandvoort and eight from the sand. One bright room with a 160x200 bed, a kitchenette, a new shower room and a private patio with afternoon and evening sun. Bikes come inside, into your own hallway. For couples and solo travellers who want the coast without the resort.

The space

A white door at the end of a brick side path, a mailbox, and your own hallway before you even reach the studio. The building is an old bakery in the centre of Zandvoort, three streets back from the sea, and the studio sits at the rear of it with its own entrance.

Twenty square metres, all on the ground floor. The hallway comes first, with room to leave two bikes inside and out of the rain. Beyond it the studio opens as one long room. The bed stands at the far end, 160 by 200, against a photo wall of dune and sunset, with a reading light and a small floating shelf on either side and a rattan pendant overhead. Along the opposite wall runs the kitchenette: oak worktop, black sink, a mini dishwasher and a mini fridge below, and a microwave, kettle, capsule coffee machine and toaster on top. There is no hob and no oven, so this is a place for breakfast, coffee and something quick, not for cooking a three-course dinner. In between, a small wooden table for two sits under the television against a slatted oak wall.

The shower room is brand new: a walk-in shower behind glass, a wall-hung toilet, marble-veined walls and floor and a brushed brass tap over the basin.

Out the back is the patio, private and yours alone, with folding bistro chairs, a small table and a blue and white tile panel on the wall. It faces west to southwest, so it picks up the sun through the afternoon and holds it into the evening. The owners live in the same building, so there is someone nearby if you need something, but the studio and the patio are entirely separate.

The neighborhood

Zandvoort is a North Sea beach town with nine kilometres of wide sand, dunes behind it and a village centre that stays lived in through the winter. People come for the sea, the beach pavilions, the dune walks and the racing circuit at the north end of town.

The studio is on the Diaconiehuisstraat, one street from the Haltestraat where most of the restaurants are. Albert Heijn on the Grote Krocht is a three-minute walk, with Bakkerij van Vessem next door to it, open from 07:00. The beach pavilions on the Boulevard Barnaart are about eight minutes on foot, straight down towards the water.

Getting around

Zandvoort aan Zee station is a three-minute walk. Trains run direct to Haarlem in about ten minutes and to Amsterdam Centraal in around half an hour, so a car is not necessary here. Schiphol is roughly 26 km. Bikes can be kept inside, in your own hallway.
