The space

Picture a slow breakfast under the olive tree in the courtyard, followed by a short walk to the beach before the day really gets going. Monumental House dates from 1908 and was fully renovated in 2018. It keeps its red-brick facade and village character, with a light, lived-in interior.

On the ground floor, the living room has a leather sofa, plenty of personal touches and an open staircase leading up. The dining area with its round table sits next to the kitchen, which has an oven, stove, dishwasher, microwave and Nespresso machine. From here you step out into the fenced courtyard garden, with an outdoor dining table, a lounge corner and a BBQ.

Upstairs, under the sloping roof, you find two bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed (160x200), and the bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin. A fan keeps the bedrooms comfortable on warm summer nights, and central heating keeps the house warm the rest of the year.

The house sleeps up to 4 adults, with a maximum of 4 guests in total. It suits responsible adults travelling as a couple, two couples or a small group of friends.

At the end of a beach day, the BBQ is lit, the street goes quiet and the sea air finds its way into the courtyard.

The staircase is steep and has no handrail, so the house is not suitable for children or guests with limited mobility.

The neighborhood

Zandvoort is the seaside town closest to Amsterdam and Haarlem, with a wide sandy beach lined with beach pavilions, dunes stretching for kilometres behind it, and a compact village centre full of cafés, shops and terraces. Guests come for long beach walks, cycling through the dunes of the Kennemerland national park and events at Circuit Zandvoort.

Monumental House is in Van Ostadestraat, a quiet street a few minutes' walk from Kerkplein and the shops of the Haltestraat. The beach and boulevard are around 10 minutes on foot, and Albert Heijn on the Grote Krocht is around the corner. For dinner, Kerkplein has several terraces close together, including Ristorante Andrea for pizza and pasta.

Getting around

Zandvoort aan Zee station is around a 5-minute walk away, with direct trains to Haarlem (around 10 minutes) and Amsterdam Centraal (around 30 to 35 minutes). Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is around 30 minutes by car. You do not need a car during your stay, as the beach, centre and supermarkets are all within walking distance.

If you come by car, a parking space in the LDC parking garage (Louis Davids Carré) is included in your stay. The garage is around a 3-minute walk from the house, and all details are in your rental guide.

Bikes are welcome, so feel free to bring your own. There are also several bike rental shops in the village centre.

➤ Check-in time: 16:00-21:00 (late arrival possible in consultation)
➤ Check-out time: before 10:00
➤ The staircase between the ground floor and the first floor is steep and has no handrail. As the bathroom is upstairs, please take extra care at night.
➤ The house has no air conditioning. A fan is available for warm days.
➤ Monumental House is the owner's own home, so you will find their books, photos and personal belongings in place, which gives the house its lived-in character.
