The space
Located just steps from the main promenade, our apartment offers easy access to island beaches and all the amenities you would expect to find nearby. Explore Olhão's cubist town architecture, cobbled backstreets in the fishermen's quarter, and the amazing fresh market and restaurants.
Step inside and be greeted by a fantastic hallway with the traditional decorations of ceilings and faux marbling walls. The first floor features two spacious bedrooms, one of which has open doors to the balcony and a small attached bureau. The second double bedroom is directly connected and only divided by the original wooden double doors. Using the small and steep stone stairway, you'll reach the second level, where the living area with an open kitchen and a great outdoor terrace with an extra toilet is located. The cherry on top is the magnificent sun terrace on the fourth floor, one of the highest in Olhão, offering panoramic views of all the surrounding islands, Armona, Culatra, and Fuzeta.

The neighborhood
Olhão is located next to Faro. It has a lovely and lively old centre with a rich history of traditional Portuguese culture. From here, you can easily explore both the east, west and inland Algarve but Olhão is perhaps most famous as the access point to the beautiful and peaceful islands of Armona and Culatra by ferry. There are public and private ferry options are available, and they are located just a few minutes' walk from the apartment.
Due to the central location, you will have lots of shops, restaurants and bars to choose from in the close vicinity of the apartment. In addition, a supermarket is located at less than 5 minutes walk.
Getting around
Getting here is not complicated. The simplest way is from Mercado and Olhão. Once on Avenida 5 de Outubro, pass the Market towards Jardim Patrão Joaquim Lopes, taking the first street on your left. Walk a few meters and this house will be on your left.
You can quickly get around on foot or use public transport or a taxi/uber. A hire car is recommended if you want to explore the larger Algarve area. Parking in old town Olhão is accessible in most places, except along the waterfront. It can be challenging to find it, but a spot will usually be available close to the apartment. An extensive paid parking area at a nearby hotel is a good alternative for those uncomfortable navigating the old town streets.

Beautiful town house with lots of character. Comfortable bed in a stunning bedroom with an amazing ceiling. Yes the stairs are challenging but we managed ok and are in our mid seventies. Unfortunately there was some renovation work on a property just across the road and breakfast on the terrace was not pleasant to the sound of an angle grinder and cement mixer but that was not the property owners fault. Would recommend this property.

An elegant Appartment but not much privacy in the 2nd Bedroom. The Beds were very comfortable with nice linen and lovely towels. Both Terraces offered views of the Ria Formosa and the Appartment was in a great central position within a short walking distance of the Restaurants, Fish and Vegetable Markets and catching the Ferry to the Islands. Unfortunately, we were unable to connect to Netflix although the Agents did supply another Cable. We think that the Hub is too far away from the TV . We loved staying at this Appartment and would happily stay again if they could sort out the Netflix Connection.

Die Betten sind bequem, die Decken aus natürlichen Materialien, kein Polyester.
Das Haus steht inmitten des Ortes, so dass man zu Restaurants, Läden, der Promenade am Wasser und dem Fährhafen nur wenige Minuten zu Fuß gehen muss.
In der Küche haben wir ein paar grundlegende Dinge vermisst wie Wasser, Kaffee, Öl und Gewürze.
Wir waren zu zweit und haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt.

This is an amazing place. What a fabulous period apartment. Amenities as described and as required. The 2 sun terraces are fabulous with great views. Such a lovely town with nice bars and restaurants and boat trips. Felt very safe walking around at night. People were very nice and helpful. Only thing to be aware of is there are 3 steep staircases in the property to get from street to bedroom floor, then another to get up to lounge & kitchen area and sun terrace. The another to go up to the top sun terrace ( which is definitely worth it).
The 2nd bedroom is more of a room off the main room with no window or AC. It so private if going with friends. The bed was very comfy though. Had a fabulous time here.

We really loved this place — it’s a beautiful historic house with so much character. The location is perfect, and the upper terrace with sunset views is absolutely amazing!
Just a note: I wouldn’t recommend it for two couples, as the second bedroom is more like a small storage room connected to the main bedroom, so it’s not fully private. But for families, groups of friends, or stays with kids — it’s ideal.

The property was not well maintained. Very difficult to lock/unlock and open the front door. Bathroom in desperate need of complete refurbishment - bidet was coming away from the wall, basin was loose, shower screen leaked all over the floor, marble tiles were stained yellow/brown by, we suspect, damp, there were large black patches of mould on the walls in the bathroom. A dirty wine glass was found on the floor in the lounge which raises the question of cleaning standard. the french doors in the bedroom were in need of replacing so much so that once we had managed to close one - with great difficulty, we did not dare to open them, rain came in under these doors during a storm. The quality of plates, glasses etc was very poor - many mismatched and obvious seconds (as they had flaws in them), not the standard we would expect.
However, the bedlinen and towels were spotless and nice quality.
No welcome pack which is very unusual.
We would not stay at this property again.

The place made an impression. Beautiful, quiet area, amazing views from the terrace. The house had everything you needed. Nearby were local shops and a large market. Very good restaurants and a port also nearby. We will definitely back again .

The place is absolutely amazing. It feels old but in a good way. Lots of people taking pictures of the door with the plaque.
Really high ceilings and nicely decorated. Beds were comfy. Clean white sheets. A few of the doors were tricky to open due to age and wear and tear.
There are steep, deep stairs in places so fine for adults may be a bit of a worry for smaller children.
I would have give 5 stars but felt the cleaning bill was excessive.

Uns hat die liebevolle und charmante Einrichtung gefallen. Aber alles war schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen.
Ansonsten eine tolle und außergewöhnlich geschnittene Wohnung mit zwei tollen Dachterassen. Hier aber Achtung wenn man mit kleinen Kindern reist.

Perfectly located in the old town. Minutes away from the market, restaurants and bars. The apartment is very old and the building is interesting and beautiful. Everything was clean, the beds were comfy, the terrace was great and the kitchen is spotless.

Very nicely located in the old town of Olhão. Everything in the center is walkable, even the washing center (SpeedQueen) is just a 15 min walk away. Less than 5 min to the ferry terminal to go to the islands and a very good bakery is just around the corner.
The flat is part of a house and the flat is kind-of virtual with a steep stairs going up - absolutely worth it, stunning view from the terrace, even more so from the roof terrace. But the steepness is worth mentioning if you have small children.

We absolutely loved this beautiful apartment in a historic building (that lots of people kept taking pictures of); waking up to the beautifully decorated ceilings in the morning was a great start of the day. The kitchen/living area is very cozy, nicely decorated and we felt home immediately. Even on rainy days (and we had a few) we loved being there as we never got tired of the wide view, and the roof terrace with its 360 degree view is fantastic.
It is true that the stairs leading to the 2nd floor are steep but we considered it a good exercise for our thigh muscles ☺.

Wir hatten ein tollen Urlaub in diesem wunderschönen Haus. Einziger Kritikpunkt ist, dass es nur 1Set Handtücher für jeden gab. Da die Unterkunft über keine Waschmaschine verfügt, waren die Handtücher nach 10 Tagen nicht mehr wirklich sauber. Auch muss man wissen, dass die Unterkunft mehrere lange und enge Treppen hat. Toll ist die zweite Toilette auf der Dachterrasse .

We had a really nice stay here. The house was quirky with beautiful high ceilings and large windows in the bedroom.
The house is pretty central to the area so good for a local market, restaurants and the 15 min ferry to Armona Island which has the most incredible crystal clear beach ever!
There’s a good supermarket 10 mins walk from the house (Continente Bom Dia Olhão) if you want to eat at home.
You definitely need to be good with stairs as it’s a set of stairs up to the first part of the house and another up to the living area and kitchen.
The house has good kitchen facilities and everything you need for a comfortable stay.
To be amazing it needs a few more things - a sofa for the lounge, sun loungers for the top terrace and it feels like some of the space needs re-thinking to make it work better - particularly if more than 2 adults are renting.
We loved that that the house had an interesting history and used to be lived in by Francisco Fernandes Lopes.

Wir hatten ein paar tolle Tage in dieser nicht alltäglichen Unterkunft. Super Ausgangspunkt für die Stadt, die Region und vor allem zu den Inseln und zum Strand. Die Fähren zu den Inseln fahren nur wenige hundert Meter vom Haus entfernt. Auch gibt es tolle Restaurants und Bars am Wasser in naher Umgebung.
Jede Etage im Haus hat ihren ganz eigenen Charme und Stil. Durch die Deckenhöhe muss man ein bisschen Treppen laufen, bei uns auch mit Kindern kein Problem. Wir haben die Zeit hier sehr genossen.

We felt lucky to stay in this beautiful building in the heart of one of the most beautiful and authentic towns in Portugal. Amazing views from two different terraces (although steep to reach the top one) and a very clean and well equipped property. Literally 3 minutes walk from the best fish and vegetable markets and excellent restaurants and friendly bars. Five minutes walk to the pier where the ferry left each day for the islands and their unspoilt beaches. Extremely comfortable bed and modern powerful shower.

The house was beautiful, both inside and outside and the roof terrace was incredible, with views of the sea and the pretty town of Olhao. We love this house for its original beautiful features, quirks and charm. It's in a brilliant location near the supermarket, markets and ferry terminal. It is one of the few houses we have found in the old town that has an outdoor terrace off the kitchen which is great for meals outside. Plus the amazing roof terrace with shade. A couple of points to note- there are steep concrete steps so not suitable for small children or anyone with mobility issues, and the second bedroom is internal and quite small.

We throughly enjoyed our stay. The house is beautifully authentic with everything you could need for a relaxing holiday . It is in a fantastic location with some great restaurants nearby and a nice local feel. We had a car but you don’t really need one as Uber was very reasonable only €10 to the airport.

Wir hatten einen tollen Aufenthalt! Die Dachterrassen sind wunderschön, zu Fuß ist es ein Katzensprung zum Fähranleger, um auf die verschiedenen Inseln zu gelangen. Die Lage ist wirklich super und das Haus (mit 2. Toilette) auf der Dachterrasse eine Wucht! Gerne wieder!

Place is unique. An old , traditional and refurbished house. The terrace is a highlight, we watched the sunset and saw a beautiful full moon rising. Not good if you cannot move upstairs downstairs, very steep, bad for children and elderly. The normal response according to Airbnb is 3 hours, and it was around 1 in our case, as the house is administered by a third party. All went well. About location, be aware that summer in Olhão can be a bit noisy, with music playing till late. The other side is a short walk to the restaurants and supermarket.

Wir haben eine sehr schöne Woche zu zweit in diesem großzügigen Haus verbracht. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt! Zentral gelegen: Supermarkt, Restaurants, Markt und Hafen sind in wenigen Minuten zu erreichen und nachts ist es trotzdem sehr leise. Das Haus voller schöner Details, von der Eingangstür bis zur Dachterrasse! Die Kommunikation mit dem gewerblichen Vermieter war sehr gut. Das Haus ist nichts für Menschen mit eingeschränkter Mobilität oder kleine Kinder, die Stufen sind sehr hoch. Wenn Sie mit mehreren Personen fahren: Das zweite Schlafzimmer ist schlecht zu lüften und hat eine Verbindungstür zum ersten Zimmer. Für unsere Zwecke hat alles wunderbar gepasst, es fehlten nur Liegen auf der Dachterrasse. Wir planen schon die nächste Reise in dieses schöne Haus...

A localização é perfeita! Tem o encanto de uma casa histórica cheia de detalhes requintados. A roupa de cama e de banho tem muita qualidade e a cama é bastante confortável. O duche grande é bom, a temperatura e pressão da água óptimas, no entanto o duche de mão necessita ser reparado. Os terraços são fantásticos, fica a sugestão de colocarem umas espreguiçadeiras no solarengo superior e substituirem os tecidos da cadeira e cortinas. A cozinha tinha todas as condições, só sentimos falta de uma varinha mágica para fazer sopa. A casa no que é mais importante estava muito limpa, mas foram negligenciados detalhes como por exemplo o interior do roupeiro, as janelas e portas por fora, por cima do microondas, bastante sujos.
Poltronas confortáveis, boa iluminação por toda a casa. As escadas de acesso à cozinha são difíceis por serem estreitas e terem degraus bastante altos, mesmo com corrimões. Ainda bem que tem outro WC nesse piso! Gostámos muito! Recomendamos e ponderamos voltar.

The place was lovely and was just right for our first trip to Olhão. The two outdoor spaces, a terrace off the kitchen and the rooftop seating area became the focus of our time when we were not out exploring. Both felt private and peaceful, but the rooftop stood out for the views over the city and the river.
The main bedroom was stunning, with a striking plaster ceiling, three doors with shutters, each with a tiny balcony fro which you can look down on the street. There is a small work area with a desk.
The second bedroom is cramped and has no windows, but there is room for cases in the hall and there is a fan and AC.
The location is fantastic. A two minute walk to the market and the waterfront. Lots of good restaurants nearby. In fact, friends who have visited Olhão several times, gave us recommendations for shops and restaurants before we booked; all were within a five minute walk.
The hosts were proactive, clear, and responsive in their communication.

This is a truly unique property. It has three levels - the bedrooms and bathroom on the first floor, kitchen, living room, and balcony on the second floor, and a lovely rooftop patio on the third floor. The patio provides a 360 degree view of Olhao and is the perfect place to watch the sun set. The balcony includes a grill and outdoor dining table. The place is beautiful, with high ceilings, wood and tile floors, and nicely selected antiques. The location is perfect - just a few steps off of the waterfront on a quiet side street. There are many restaurants and bars just a few steps away. There is also a large grocery store nearby, and it is very close to the Olhao market with beautiful fresh produce and fish. One thing to note - this is managed by a real estate management company, so there is no local host to answer questions or provide recommendations. That being said, they do respond 24 x 7 if something should arise. Highly recommend.

Beautifully decorated. The sun terrace off the kitchen was the MVP - great for morning coffee, evening cocktails and everything in between. The stairs between the bedroom floor and the kitchen/sitting room floor are tile, so would suggest bringing slippers. Everything looks new and is very clean. Location could not be better - would definitely stay there again

Beautiful historic home in a great location. Extremely close to everything Olhão has to offer but quiet and private. Master bedroom is very comfortable but the second bedroom is very small and lacks ventilation. There could have been more storage.
The balcony and roof terrace are stunning, it was great to have a little barbecue of fish from the market, and sit watching the stars in the evening.

La propiedad fue exactamente lo que esperábamos hermosa y delicada; no obstante, NO tiene Wifii aunque se puede identificar y accesar. NO funciona en lo absoluto por lo cual se debe indicar. La misma no es recomendable para familias con niños y/o personas mayores por las escaleras y accesos pequeños y cada detalle de la propiedad es muy delicada (perillas, puertas que no cierran,...). El A/C es solo en la habitación principal; para que el segundo cuarto pueda disfrutar del mismo (ya que el abanico de techo no funciona) se debe dejar la puerta abierta para que ventile el aire acondicionado y pierdes privacidad,

Brilliant location - so close to the ferry port and markets and a local supermarket. Literally everything you might need on your doorstep. Only €13 in an Uber from the airport.
The accommodation is split across 3 floors with some steep narrow steps to the kitchen and again to the rooftop terrace. We were fine but might be a struggle for people with some physical impairments.

Beautiful property in a lovely location, smooth check-in process, and we arrived out of hours which was no hassle at all. Close to restaurants and bars but the nearest supermarkets are a twenty or so minute walk away so if you're arriving late, be prepared. Close to the local stops for boat trips and easily accessible for bus and train trips to the rest of the Algarve and beyond.

The hob (stove / cooktop) didn’t work. Though an initial WhatsApp message was responded to quickly, it was never fixed so we had the whole week without full cooking facilities, which is a shame as it’s so close to the market and cooking as a family is important to us. Several messages were exchanged about it, but never any apology or sense of urgency. Even a video WhatsApp (which I suggested) would have been good, to ensure the issue was understood or to check if there was something we could do.
Also - the stunning top terrace has virtually no furniture.

What a lovely place to stay! So conveniently located close to supermarket, restaurants, markets and the ferry to the islands. The architecture really felt authentic, from the doorway and steps up to the first floor, to the kitchen and terrace and then also the roof terrace! What a wonderful addition to the apartment - we spent many peaceful hours up on the roof, where the cool breeze from the ocean was welcome. I loved looking out over the rest of the town and neighbouring rooftops. Kitchen well equipped, good shower, comfy beds. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

L’immeuble est joli avec les portes jaunes, beaucoup de cachet. La vue depuis la terrasse supérieure de l’appartement est magnifique avec un joli coup d’œil sur les toits de la ville, on voit un peu la mer. L’appartement est atypique et il est meublé avec charme. Attention la deuxième chambre est une alcôve qui est attenante à l’autre chambre donc qui procure une promiscuité non négligeable.
À notre arrivée la machine à café n’était pas nettoyée, sur la terrasse il y avait des mégots parterre, et certains verres étaient sales.
Il manquait des linges de vaisselle et des essuies-mains et certains ustensiles comme un tire-bouchon.
Il faudrait aérer de temps en temps les lits.

Noch ein Hinweis zu der Stiege, die zur Küche führt: Personen mit einer körperlichen Einschränkung sollten so informiert sein, dass sie vor einer Buchung selbst entscheiden können, ob sie sich das zumuten wollen.
